Organic Memory Transfer - Random Starbuck Theory

Always fun to throw out a Theory.

Suppose for a moment that when Cavil “kills” Daniel, the normal download process happens, but instead of working properly, something malfunctions and the result is (get ready for it) Starbuck.

Not Daniel, not in person anyway, but containing some of the properties of a Cylon. We’ve already seen that a virus can be transferred through the download process. Suppose that certain other qualities could be transferred as well… The ability to download, certain artistic qualities…

?

Huh, that’s a neat theory. It would certainly explain some things.

That’ll make the Starbuck-is-a-Man crowd happy

I am beginning to think that Starbuck is Daniel. Maybe not the way you theorize (though it could be), but that she somehow is Daniel. To be honest, I never remember them actually saying that the living Daniel model was killed. I know John poisoned the amniotic fluid so that no others could be made. Here is my very lose theory:

Daniel finds out that John is trying to kill him and he escapes. John assumes after so many years that Daniel is dead. Over the decades, Daniel has done research of his own and built his own facility of sorts. To get back at John he knows he is going to need to be out in the open, but he can’t do it in his own body. So he forms Kara as the model, and he downloads into her.

As an aside, the whole short time they were orbiting earth, I kept having this feeling that there was an underground resurrection facility under the earth. Even now, with them being away from Earth, I still have that feeling. Maybe Daniel made his way to Earth and set up shop there.

I dunno, just theorizing. All will be revealed soon.

As good as an idea I have seen IMHO.

Naa, more likely, this is Daniel

And I’m iffy on that theory. There’ something more we’re missing.

That should be Kara’s pianist Father…I still lean to him as the possible Daniel, with bitter Socrates protecting the secret.

I don’t know if Socrata knew exactly what the secret was, but more likely knew only the bare bones of it. I think her bitterness and desire to hurt Starbuck to harden her would have led her to use her knowledge as a knife, if she’d had it.

I like your theory. I surely hope all will be revealed.
Welcome to the Forum nisim777.

Perhaps someone can elaborate for me who Daniel is and why I keep hearing that suddenly one of the S7 models we’ve never seen before? Maybe it’s because I wasn’t paying close attention during episode 4, but except for the end much of that exposition seemed unnecessary to me, just an exaggerated way to show how Adama and company regained control.

I believe Starbuck is somehow a resurrection, but I don’t buy any of these sex-changing, F5 downloading glitch, theories, it’s just too out there, even for this show.

Truly, is anything “just too out there” for BSG? I think not.

I would argue that there is a line that shouldn’t be crossed, “too out there” as we’ll call it. There is a certain amount of realism to the show, despite the sci-fi aspects, most of which are simple sci-fi staples that require no extraneous thought and are simply analogies to current concepts. Sex-changing, especially through technological manipulation out of malice and animosity, takes the show from one of drama and characters into the realm of campy, horror-esque sci-fi (Dr. Jekyll, Sister Hyde for example). It just doesn’t fit for Cavil to say, “Hehehehe, I’ll just make Daniel into a girl and then box his whole line, hehehehehe. Serves him right.” Based on certain technologies and theories much of the human-form Cylon stuff isn’t beyond the realm of possibility, even the “download” part. If we could recreate human brains in a computer, why couldn’t we wirelessly transmit it?

The only valid explanation that Starbuck could be Daniel would be some of Starbuck’s butch behavior, except thus far she has exhibited no homosexual behavior either, so that’s only part of it. Just my thought.

It’s a great theory, but her mystery dad just screams that Daniel was her pop.

You have got to rewatch the episode! I am going to watch it again before tomorrow night’s installment. I did find it a little jarring to suddenly discover there’s yet another model out there we didn’t know about. It seemed like something they added toward the last minute, though I could be wrong about that.

Hopefully we’ll find it a satisfying, understandable addition by the conclusion of the series.

Well, It was added at the last minute. The writers realized they had a gap between the first 6 and #8. #7 is there to fill the gap, but they’ve already clarified that the 7s are gone for good.

I’m with ya there, that’s just whack. Sides the people that would make happiest refused to watch the new show sight unseen.

Fun fact, that article for the NY Times was writing by none other than John Hodgman.

I’ll never pretend to be good at math, but why can’t Ellen just take the #7 slot? The other four of the FF fit in so why not her?

Well FF works both front and back. First Five Final Five. After what John did to them they would have been the Final Five.

I think originally she was, but that left the FF and the Seven overlapping in model numbers. This solves that.

It’s interesting to me that John managed to program the S7 to not remember the FF, but still to count them as Cylons, resulting in 12 models, but 5 that ‘we never talk about’. Of course, there’s a real world explanation to that, but I’m interested to see if it’s addressed (if it’s not, I don’t really care.)
