I am sooooo let down that they are advertising Trek on a Nascar.

Yes there is a Nascar that is sponsered by Trek!.

I guess it is an effort to stop incest.

I guess if the rednecks start watching trek they will stop being the guys that bang their cousins and daughters and become the guys that can’t get laid!!!

But seriously, I am from the south. These two audiences don’t mix.

nascar fan: “why is there a blacky girl on that space ship, I don’t get it”

other nascar fan: " Why is jew looking devil dude and the Captain friends. This show is BS! Get me another american light beer in a can… BURP!!!"

Well I live in Charlotte NC the corporate home of NASACR. I see 100,000 of theese toothless simpletons twice a year convergeing on this town. I also watched Will farell make a movie here that CALLS THEM IGNORANT and they love it. They quote it!

My father owns a car dealership and I see the “food on thier T-shirt” type’s come in to trade in their beat up pick ups with a RIP Earnhart sticker and Calvin pissing on a ford symbol , who BTW can never buy a new car because their credit rateing is around a 500 beacon score.

Sure somebody always brings up the fact that there a few CEO’s and bussiness guys at those races. Sure maybe 2000 total. But 100,000 “people” are there. So that’s around 98,000 toothless, can beer drinking, wifebeating, truck and RV owning , rebel flag waveing red necks.

As for Star Trek. Been one since the middle 70’s. Been attending cons and playing games with fans for years. never known one to give a damn weather or not “ford beats cheavy” today. And for the most part they attended school past the 10th grade. Don’t have rebel flag tatoos, and dont ususaly embrace movies that acurately make them out to be imbred.

For every one guy tha someone can bring up that isn’t the stereotypical nascar fan… there are 10,000 that are. Do you ever see a nice car with Nascar bumper stcker? you might, but nowhere near as many as you see them on beat up , pawned car title, POS american made cars missing fenders with half the paint as primer but… for some reason it has a 2k sound system and shiny wheels. I live in the Heart of Nascar once again… I see it daily.

When a Trek con comes to town. it’s usuly people that would be on the forums… us, they guys that are hear every day. Not the Nascar types.

If you are a nascar fan who doesn’t fit the sterotype… then you know that those people ARE the majority of you fans… it doesn’t mean that you are. So don’t get mad. Sterotyppes exist because more than one person noticed a patern. It’s how we conduct inteligence missions in the army.

I am ethnicaly german, my grandpa fought in the war for thier side. When some makes a staement like " all those germans were racists" or “the Germans were butchers during the war” I don’t try to bring up the extreme minority that were notas an argument… I know why they say it. Don’t be mad that normal southerners think the nascar people are trash… be mad that the majority have acted trashy to create the sterotype.

I think we can agree that not all NASCAR fans are toothless rubes, and not all Star Trek fans can even spell NASCAR.

I stand with not all, but most. Just be black or gay and show up at a NASCAR weekend. It’s in the paper localy at EVERY race about what goes on.

I never got into NASCAR, even though it was extremely popular among the locals. The drivers may be cool – but there are a majority of the fans that are downright scary, racists, as experienced by a couple of our Stars and Stripes reporters who we sent to cover the race at Darlington. One of our reporters was an Black soldier in uniform, the other not. He got beer bottles thrown at him and called all kinds of names.

I am not a political kinda guy, but as a southerner… these guys really set us back. Ask the NAACP about NASCAR RACES. Ask someone who owns a bar in the area around where they camp on race weekend. I just saying that Star Trek and Nascar don’t go together. There might be ONE nascar fan who isn’t that way… but it is definatly the majority.

Um, OK. The GF (black girl, BTW) and I aren’t fans, per se, but we like to watch the occasional race. I’m sure there are plenty of people like us. That’s probably what the Trek marketing is targeted at.

well i was really just makeing a joke about something that is universaly accepted as a redneck sport ( henceforth the Will Ferall movie being considered funny- humor has to be based on truth to be funny) And trek being something that is universaly accepted as anti-redneck mergeing fan bases. it’s pretty a pretty funny idea if you think about it. I picture redecks with a John Deere cap with a comunicator pin stuck to it. That is the point to my post.

And the 100 people that are sci-fi fans at a Nascar race are going to see star trek anyway. The car was pointless money being spent and is laughable. One doesn’t think that they picked up fans by writeing the word Star Trek on the side of a race car.

The conversation became a little more serious to me when somebody ( and somebody always trys to do this) trys to act like my depiction of these fans isn’t for the most part true.

It’s kinda like me saying that " D&D players are geeks" and someone trying to call me out on it. We all know this to be true! Sure there might be the one guy you know in school that was super popular, had a girlfriend, and wasn’t geeky, played football and everyone wanted to be him…but we all know that’s not the average, nor the majority, or even common. Once again… Reno 911 made the D&D guys nerds because we know it’s true. If it weren’t … it wouldn’t be funny. ( and I am not saying that being a nerd is bad or anything)

On forums somebody always wants to challenge what’s normaly accepted. I mean if your a fan and this isn’t you… surely you know that 95% of the rest of the fans are and you shouldn’t get pissed about it.

PLUS I am an expert on NASCAR fans. I SEE the biggest group of them converge on my home twice a year. I live near the track. I also live where they have concerts. I also have a degree in Psycology so I figure that I am a good judge of this subject. I can compare the problems that my friends that own bars have with Nascar fans as opposed to the problems they don’t have with the Trek convention or the jimmy Buffet concert ( or the Indy car, or formula one fans) but nascar brings the trash to our community. And THIS is their hewadquarters.

We have racial problems when they show up, not when AC/DC or the Trek convention is in town.
