Old Man's War Movie

Wow, just saw that Paramount is making the movie, hopefully looking to do the series.

Here’s the link from SyFy

Hopefully, they keep to the book, which I found an EXCELLENT read, and not to complicated for Hollywood to understand…

Crossing fingers that this doesn’t end up a Starship Troopers.

I’m excited for this. From the article, it seems like Scalzi is going to be pretty involved. I know this won’t be an exact translation of the story from book to screen, but I hope it ends up being pretty close.

And I agree with the sentiment about Starship Troopers. As much as I like the movie, it was not a good adaptation of the book, IMO.

There is a bit more info linked to the author’s blog, seems like he is prepared to take the “Hollywoodization” of his novel, and already accepts that it won’t be a direct translation. Which is a bit sad, like I said before, I think they can do it, plot’s not to over the head of the average person, plenty of action and explosions and a love interest. Visualizing the BrainPals for the audience could be either done really well, or totally ignored, which would make it a bit more interesting further movie/book adaptations.
For some strange reasons, the “first person shooter” scene from DOOM pops into mind!!!

Please, Please, Please, Hollywood, DO NOT mess with the whole super fit, super sexy, green troops, especially the chapter when they get the new bodies!!!

Hope they don’t mess this up.
Damn good novel.

Really really really hope Scalzi is able to have an impact here and keep the Hollywood suits at bay. The Old Man’s War series is absolutely one of my favorites, of any genre.

This has the potential to be totally frakking great.

(let’s just hope michael bay doesnt get involved)

(sorry michael)

Do NOT appologize to Michael until he appologizes first.

You can thank Fox and Ridley Scott for (still) making The Forever War as the motivation behind Paramount picking up Old Man’s War.

I wonder what other SF war operas with literary cred the rest of the studios will buy up? :shifty:

Either novel/triology is a great read, so no losers here except the screen writers struggling to adapt these classics for the screen. Two years ago this month, Joe Haldeman stated David “Blade Runner” Peoples had turned in four rewrites. No word yet about a finalized script.

Forever War is being made into a movie?!?!? Squeeee!

The real trick is going to be how to distinguish the plot from the Avatar, “hey look! new body!” device.

Once we get beyond that, well…game on.

Well they’re green…crap Sean is screwed…but they’re still human. Damn. They could totally steal the avatar sets though

What? Repeated plots in Hollywood movies… NEVER! I say NEVER!!!
