As §Rik on the Young Ones said, “Bwillliant!”
That’s waaaaay too funny. Like, deserves a Pulitzer Prize for pop-culture referencing, photoshopping, and internet time-killers.
“Ask your parents”???
Part of my first job was selling those…
Gods, I feel old.
OK all you young whippersnapers, get offa my LAN!
What, no ROMs?
Best Atari 2600 game? Tie between Pitfall and Adventure in my opinion.
What’s yours?
Adventure was my first Atari game, spent the whole summer of '81 playing it at a friend’s house. Once I got an Atari in Christmas '82, it was Pitfall! But Defender was my favorite.
Adventure ruled. Especially once you could master carrying two things at the same time.
I used to love that sound. It drove anyone over the age of 8 insane.
Ask your parents…
I not only remember the Atari 2600 but it was my only gaming console until my parents finally bought a Nintendo in 1990 which I had until like 1996 when they bought me a Nintendo Virtual Boy.
The Atari is still in the garage with most of the games.
Wait, what? How?
Pitfall was offered that theoretically-obtainable level of perfection that, as in life, remains an impossible dream for most. Yet we keep trying.
Activision’s Megamania was badassed, but I still have a soft spot for Space Invaders, espcially when you did the cheat with the reset button that allowed you to fire two missles at a time. And much score-flipping ensued. I think my record was like six times.
Whoever green-lit the Pac-Man adaptation is gonna burn in hell.
Once you are carrying something…line up another object, key, bridge, chalice, sword, dead dragon and run into it. If you have everything lined up ok, you will drop what you are carrying and pick up the other object, then pick up what you just dropped and drop what you just picked up. Basically you just run and keep bumping into the same two things. Takes a little work to get around corners…especially if a dragon was on your tail.
As was said earlier, the sound is awesome.
Oh my. I took mine apart circa 1986 once I got my Commodore 64. I had a soldering iron and I was curious.
Mine is sitting above the Wii on the Entertainment Center of Doooooooom TM.
Need to find my C64 and see if it still works.
Best game?
I didn’t play too much of the Atari, but I do very clearly remember the worst one I ever played: E.T.
Terrible game. Scarred me for years. Well, not really, but it took a long time before I would play video games again.
OMG that’s genius. I’m embarrassed to say i didn’t’ realize they were fake until about the 4th game :\
When i see something like this I wonder how did they get these talented artists/writers to give their time to it? It’s so great, but was it a freelance gig? i don’t get it!
SS
UPDATE: ok i am embarrassed again - i just recognized some of the cover art from games I’ve played! - this is pure photoshop. hangs head in shame
GRR!!! ET! I agonized over that game. trying to figure it out - that and Indiana jones! i’d still like to see how you beat those f*ckers!
Bought a 300 baud modem to find out. Alas, I don’t remember.
