Office decor

I need some help with some art for my office at work. I’m leaning toward some of DaVinci’s sketches of flying machines as sort of a geeky yet acceptable office decoration.

I love the idea of the cylon war print, but it’s a bit over the top for my conservative company.

What sort of art do you have displayed in your work environment that expresses your inner geek?

I have a big notice board over my desk that has various strips from XKCD pinned to it, a very funny/sentimental email written to me by a close friend, and several other comic strips found on the internet.

I have two pieces of original comic art next to this, a pin-up from Danielle Corsetto (Girls with Slingshots webcomic - read it!) and a page from Criminal Macabre: A Cal McDonald Mystery by Ben Templesmith.

On my desk I have:

  • 3 figures from Bucky O’Hare (Bucky, Deadeye, & Willy)
  • 2 Ghost Land mini-figures
  • a MechaBot Metallic Edition figure
  • a Pink Obie the Alien Space Cadet figure
  • a Toshiba BC-815 calculator from 1975
  • a Grandstand Astro Wars “handheld” video game from 1981

I should point out that I am an IT Support Officer for a University Medical Research School, so I may be a-typical

Do you mean the figure on its knees that was in the viper jocks’ meeting room? I have that. I’d guess you could put it up; tell people it’s to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war. But don’t mention which war.

Welcome aboard, by the way.

I have a functioning miniature catapult on my desk, from ThinkGeek. I’d also have a USB Pet Rock there, but decided to take it home so it wouldn’t get lonely at night.

Hey thanks for the welcome. Actually I was talking about the one in Adama’s quarters. I think I’ve seen it on thinkgeek, here in fact.

A long time ago I had a poster of “the internet” that I got off think geek but I lost it in a move somehow.

I guess I was going for something that looks a little like fine art but has a geek twisty. I heard a story on NPR about a savant who can do complex math quickly and is able to have normal social interactions. He was describing how numbers in his mind were three dimensional shapes with textures and colors. He painted an image of PI, I thought that would be cool, but it’s not something you can buy on art.com apparently.

Here’s the link to wikipedia about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Tammet

We recently moved into a new office building and I’m only a few offices away from the CEO now, so I wanted to present something that looked… umm… grown up? I still have a soft spot for xkcd and dilbert strips though! In fact, my pointy haired boss doll is still perched on my bookshelf.

I am enjoying hearing about other office/cube decor though!

I’d get one of the demotivational posters that think.geek sells. They look like typical office drek at a glance.

Well, I think once I get to my new project, I’ll end up moving some of my BSG Titanium ships to work. Since a little after I got Rodney, I’ve had to keep them in the cabinet above my desk because he still thinks everything is a toy.

You just had to post that link, didn’t you? I CAN’T AFFORD ALL THAT COOL STUFF!

Where’s my credit card? Where can I sell plasma?
