Oedipus Cavil (john) and the Swirl

James: One thing I would like to know is if the Final Five (and the rest of the Earth Cylons) believed in the One True God like the Centurions do?

Jane: The Final Five were polytheists until they met the Centurions, who were monotheists.

A picayune point, perhaps, but until they MET the Centurions? So, the metallic Cylons on Erf, created by whomever there, were polytheists? Why the difference? The ongoing religious strife on Caprica vs. religous harmony on Erf?

And what happened to the 13th Tribe leaving Kobol as worshippers of the one god who wanted to be placed above all others? That smacks of monotheism.

Good point on “MET”. Even if there is no real significance to that word choice one thing I took away from that quote is the significance of the centurions. There might be more than than meets the eye, or red pulsating light.

The interview was quite enlightening, not only in good ways that help answer some questions, but also in some less-than-stellar ways that really confirm you can’t have strict continuity when people behind the show come and go throughout the lifetime of the product. That being said, it did give me hope that there is some semblance of sense that should prevail.

I still don’t think the Ellen flashbacks would have been confusing, especially with the title card telling you when it happened.

Thanks so much for the link, Starbutt!

Now I’m really curious since the “One god” thing is a part of the Caprica series also and Ellen’s cylon god programming doesn’t happen til years later when they show up.

Hey, did they just grow old and resurrect for 2000 years while they were on their sub-light way to the colonies, or do they not age???

Ya, but did Cavil concoct their personalities or just block memories. The original Ellen was a superslut and this one seems a bit slutty too. Is Saul a drunk who’s missed 2000 years worth of AA meetings? They do seem to be getting smarter (they were scientists afterall).

Its interesting that the fountainhead for the monotheist tradition is the least human like, the most machine like, the frakin toasters.

I wonder whether that also is the case with the metallic Cylons developed by the FF type Cylons on Kobol - which was a major reason for the 13th Tribe’s exodus.

If it is a belief system of “just” the Colony metallic Cylons - the origina must somehow relate to the relgious strife that will be at the forefront of Caprica. We my find that Graystone had something to do with inserting monotheism into the thoughts of the toasters.

What little we know about the upcoming series is that Ben Whoever and Zoe Graystone are practicing monotheism - and ILLEGAL religion (why that is should be pretty interesting). Ben is fanatical about it. To the extent that Dr. Greyston recreates Zoe, the new Zoe may well have her belief system. Perhaps it was not too far of a step for that same system to become that of the Toasters. (Or something like that.)
