Oddest Star Trek Casting

What was the most bizarre piece of casting ever in Star Trek?

Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan.

I recall wondering what could they possibly be thinking on the Paramount lot when that decision came out of the smoke filled bungalow.

That being said, I did like the character and miss Goldberg’s work, it just seemed like a ‘cousin Oliver’ move at the time.

I thought Goldberg worked for her role.

Bacula as Archer was harder to understand. Love the actor, but he just didn’t seem Captain material, and considering how much of the show he was expected to carry…

Paul Sorvino (well known as the “Godfather” figure in Goodfellas) played Worf’s human brother. Odd casting in the sense that such a big acting name would guest on Star Trek.
But fantastic in the role.

He was in that episode Sean talked about in the Non-Interference Part I podcast.

Paul Sorvino maybe an interesting piece of casting, but I don’t find it all that odd. I mean, he is somewhat well known, but good for the part I think.
I guess maybe it should “WTF Star Trek casting” but without the bad connotations? Whatever, more Trek talk is good.

Weirdest Star Trek Casting, bar none:

I vaguely remember reading somewhere at the time that some foreign diplomat was an extra on Voyager one time. I’m thinking he was from somewhere in the Middle East, but I don’t remember where.

Now there’s some odd casting. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tesh, definitely Tesh…

Wow, that is pretty weird. Didn’t even know who he was. Shouldn’t have bothered with the poll, lol.

I beg to differ… Whoopo Goldberg was… Whoopi Goldberg. She’s an institution unto herself (I do know people like that.)

Guinan’s character was sooo mysterious that by the end of the series, no one ever knew anything substantial about her character (other than that Guinan is somewhat like the girl on Andromeda who’s the living embodiment of a sun; who could perceive multiple universes)

yes…totally expected him to play the keyboards

waitaminute…what’re you doing with an autographed pic of John Tesh???

This is why you include a Baltar option.

This is why you include a Baltar option.

Its been so long I didn’t think anyone would know what I was talking about. Although that never stopped us before.

Well, “Other” is a Baltar option, so you’re covered.

Should be the other way around!
