Yea fell like i gotta support AEGs sentiments
wish you weren’t right but until the good folks in charge decide to get serious in funding alternative energy sources, there’s a rock over there and a hard place over there.
well there is perfectly reasonable energy source but evil CEO’s and world leaders will not let it happen corrupt bastards.
I’ll also mention that we don’t use solar energy as much as we should. No it’s probably not enough to meet all of our energy requirements, but every kWh that comes from solar is one that doesn’t have to come from oil, coal, nuclear, etc. Put panels on ever house, building, traffic light, street light, etc.
Just my 2 cents.
solar is the future, its not here today; but if we want to sustain ourselves solar will in all likely-hood be the way to do it. tech isn’t here yet, but its the only real hope i see for the current energy demand. well that or shrimp
Yeah, there’s some awesome tech going on there which could (and should!) be widely exploited, but it’s still not going to fill the gap. At least, not near-term.
Like I said, supplement. Solar, and wind for that matter, can’t currently be implemented in a way to meet all of our needs. But using them is the only way we’re going to improve on them. At some point, we have to step up and make the initial investment. (btw, one of my friends has a cabin that is run entirely on solar power. they only use a generator for the shower)
Well, I don’t want to hear about people dying. I just wanted the background info. I’m pleasantly surprised with that statistic however.
It’s not about liking what I’m hearing honestly.
Okay, let me clear this up because I think you may have the wrong impression or I’m coming off to strong.
I asked what people thought because I am interested in hearing what people in the GWC community who are for this have to say. I couldn’t care less about what the talking heads on CNN have to say on the issue. But, I do care about what people here think.
I’m not asking or hoping for someone to change my mind. I am hoping I can gleam something from the brilliant, calm, and rational minds we have on this forum that will make me feel this won’t be as bad as I fear this will be since this is going forward no matter what.
I am not and wasn’t disputing any statistics anyone said, nor am I denying others the right to feel how they feel. I just wanted to know how it compared in a fair manner. And, what you said about 2 people versus 70,000 in 11 years managed that because I now no longer need to know how big the coal industry is versus the nuclear industry. Make sense?
I personally think we should buld a Dyson Sphere and then harvest the solar power that way. It would solve all our energy and land needs. Hell each person on earth could have a plot of land the size of Texas and still have room to spare.
But seriously I do think Solar is the way of the future and they are making some amazing steps using nanotech to build better Solar panels. But as its been said we are not quite there yet. I am looking forward to the day when we have Solar arrays in space that beam energy down to the Earth. That will take a long time and/or great investment but would be cool nonetheless
Alright, I’m sick and tired of these threads devolving into amicable agreements and disagreements. If you don’t start flaming each other into link-generating awesomesauce, I’m just going to pull this forum over. And you’ll have to walk. Which will be a long way. Probably uphill.
No, really, keep on keepin’ on.
I can see that, but the same can be said for coal mining and oil companies. No business goes into a project expecting a catastrophe, and I’m sure American oil and coal companies have over sights to protect their workers and the environment.
Or, a giant solar panel in space that beams energy to earth as microwave… Wait, that’s more dangerous than a nuclear plant…
Edit:
Late edit hive mind!
than for the love of spagetti just listen to me… the undeniable power of the shrimp powered yakety Sax engine will save us all
sorry i just had too; its far to serious here
Why dont we just tap into the Ley Lines. Sure we might piss off a few Druids but Frak them and their beards and comfy robes.
We need to in-source workers from Europe and Japan to run these plants! Yeah!
I’m kidding! We obviously can’t have them taking away American jobs even if they do know what they’re doing!
But oil and coal have been around for a while. Any nuclear plant is going to have a big fight and some negative PR from the start. They’re going to be extremely cautious during the first few years of operation because people are having debates like the one we are having. (No guarantees for safety, but one more thing to keep in mind)
Of course, we could meet all of our energy requirements with a single hamster on a wheel. The gnomes just need to high five each other faster. Or we need to harvest the gnomes from another planet to increase our gnome density.

There was a Simpsons about that. In season 3 or 4 The Germans bought the power plant and made it a much better place…or tried to.
we’ll only hire american shrimp it’ll be fine.
I don’t even think it should be a debate, cleanest form of energy with an excellent track record? Actually viable unlike solar or wind? Chance of mutants and/or super heroes?
As a person who lives near where the domestic nuclear waste would end up at, I am not for more nuclear plants unless a way to recycle the spend fuel rods is in place. I feel solar and wind power should be increased as well as fixing the extremely old power grid that this country depends on.
Solar is nuclear.
I am going to try to get some panels on our house someday. First, though I need to tighten up some leaks and make it as energy efficient as possible.
That’s part of the problem with our energy systems today just like with government spending. Before we figure out where more energy (or tax dollars) need to come from we need to fix the leaks and inefficiencies in the systems now in order to get the best return on our overall investments.
I wonder though if everyone (theoretically speaking of course) had enough solar to take care of themselves if the cities and states would start throwing a fit because of lost revenues?
