I say go for the gusto:

The Trouble with Tribbles: Revenge of the Fallen
There’s going to be a Monopoly movie, right? There’s a Trek-branded Monopoly game, right?
It practically writes itself.
The Enterprise is overtaken by a high energy communication beam and pulled into the gravitational pull of a binary star system. Unbeknowst to them, the Sirens have planned the whole thing. Dun Dun Dun! And what are the Sirens after? What else? Spock’s Brain.
The next Trek movie must be, Return of the Space Hippies
The Wrath of Vaal
U.S.S. Enterprise Chief of Security and his Red Shirt Team: The UnTold Story
starring Denis Leary as Security Chief Danny O’Shaunessey
Id like to watch this immediately please.
I’m afraid it will have to be rated R for profanity.
In all seriousness, all kidding aside, here’s my thot about the Star Trek sequel:
They’ve done a very smart thing by rebooting and changing the timeline so Star Trek no longer has to be beholden to what’s happened before. Now anything can happen. So now they should take advantage of that? Right?
Rather than rehash anything from the past I hope they come up with the best, most exciting and dramatic 2nd-Act-in-Three-Part-Trilogy kind of story that’s about the characters.
I really hope they go for something original. Tailor the villain or conflict or situation to get the most dramatic and interesting story. And let’s put the Earth-in-jeopardy bit aside for once. Been done and done and done.
Wholeheartedly agree!
I also agree. Rehashing old material will only serve to kill the franchise where it stands. If they want to put Trek on solid footing going forward the next film will need to have a strong story, something done well enough to capture a whole new generation of fans not just pander to people who already watch Trek. What we have gotten so far has been a great start but my fear is a flop in the in the second installment could leave us trek-less for another decade.
part of me hopes that they do what Roddenberry did occasionally - some message within the movie (war, rascism, etc).
another part of wants something totally original - really take them away from the old eps and do something new.
another part of me wants the adventure of the first flick with good characters and uhura kickin some ass and KHAAAAAN!
And another part of me wants the return of the Squire of Gothos/ “are you challenging me to a duel?!?!?!”
Three things:
The Platonians, some folks from Cheron, and a giant Othello board.
it HAS to suck… it will be an odd numbered trek! That’s the rules!
how about the Borg?
yes I know we’re not suppose to see them yet but with the time line now all messed up who knows!
ya I know it probably wouldn’t fit with the original crew but The Borg are just my favorite enemy
either that or something where the Romulans are taking fallout from the Klingons over Nero’s slaughter of those 100 warbirds that we heard about in the background from the most recent film and there’s a massive cold war about to go hot between the Klingon/Federation/Romulan factions
we then find out somebody is working to start the war, perhaps another race that wants to come in and play clean up afterwards, and the Enterprise and its crew have to stop them and expose to everyone what’s really going on
Very ThotFull thots, Thot. I really, REALLY don’t want to see a remake of Khan. And for sure, the Earth has become the Princess Toadstool of the Star Trek franchise, so it’d be nice to see them come up with a different way to raise the stakes.
Actually, it’ll be an even number. So it might be good.
The curse is broken with the last odd number movie being good

I like this idea a lot! More generally, I think I would should see Klingons in the next movie. Klingons are a huge part of Star Trek, especially in the movies and they had almost nothing in the last movie.
I don’t think it should be a specific storyline from the original series or movies, even if it is changed in the new timeline. Star Trek isn’t like Batman or Spiderman with a Villains gallery, that they have to pick one or two to feature each time, some Trek movies don’t even have “villains”.
I second Return of the Space Hippies. I don’t know how to do it, but it’s got to be done.
