New X-Box 360 Owner

I just bought an X-Box 360 today and have some questions for other people who own 360s.

  1. My cable modem is upstairs with my computer, but my TV and 360 are downstairs. How do those of you with cable internet connect both your computer and 360? I doubt moving the cable modem up and down would be all that feasible for me.

  2. What are “essential” games? I already have the two games that came with it and Mass Effect 2 (will get ME1 for it at some point unless there’s a way to import saved games from my computer to it).

  3. What accessories do you guys use on a regular basis?

I’ll probably think of more later, but this is a good start.

Do you have a router? Is it possible to move your modem down to the TV room?

A cable connection is best. If you can’t run wire, Microsoft makes a wireless adapter but it is pricey. It would be cheaper to get one for the computer. If you don’t have a router you should get one anyways just for the firewall.

Essential
Fable II
Bioshock
Dragon Age: Origins

Great
Assassins Creed
Assassins Creed 2
Fable (Made for XBox but still compatible)
Bioshock 2

If you like first person shooters then Halo and Call of Duty are the best franchises.

Uh, Controllers. :stuck_out_tongue:
It should come with the headset. If you message people then the controller keyboard is nice. If you plan to use it as a media center then the remote might be nice. I would give a little time to see how you use it. Some accessories are nice but you find that you don’t use it enough to justify the price.

Default Prophet is the king of 360 and uses it more then anyone I know. I’m sure he’ll have a few suggestion when he is done tweeting.

Did you get one of the new slim models or the original style?

I think the new slim model has wireless built-in if you got it.

Original (and Arcade, not Elite)

Bummer! Someone made a really good case to me for skipping the Arcade revision: The price difference between it and the next one up is minimal considering the game(s) the next one comes with PLUS the fact that it has a hard drive.

Unless you got a deal significantly better than the retail $199, might be worth double checking the feature difference, especially if you’re now in the market for games.

If you had gotten the new slim one it would have come with a built in Wifi adapter and a 250g hard drive. You can get a Wifi adapter but they cost $100 which is a terrible price. Your best option is to run a line if you can.

As for essiental games.

Mass Effect Two really does incorporate the story and events from Mass Effect 1 more than any other game i have ever played. In some pretty significant ways.

Fallout 3 is an awesome game. Its totally independent of the previous Fallout’s in terms of story.

$149.99, so I’d say it was quite a bit better

  1. I keep my modem and wireless router by my television. The Wifi adapter for the Xbox isn’t cheap, but adapters for my PCs are.

  2. I’ve been playing the crap out of Borderlands recently, and it’s awesome dystopia. Fable II as suggested before is a great game with solid fantasy elements. Of course also Halo, Force Unleashed, and Gears of War. As for Xbox Live arcade games, Castle Crashers is a ton of fun with a couple players, Shadow Complex is well-done metroid-style side-scrolling shooter, and Pac-Man C.E. is one of the best remakes of a retro game I’ve ever seen.

  3. Rechargeable batteries! For sure! They will save you tons and tons and tons of money.
