Anybody else catch the new release? Comments?
I haven’t checked it out yet (it’s not my favorite fanfilm project) but I’ve started downloading it, and should be able to report back in a day or two.
What is your favorite ST fanfilm?
Starship Exeter does a really good job of capturing the look and feel of the original series. Unfortunately, the last act of their second episode has been hung up for a year or so.
Star Trek: Intrepid is an good post-DS9/Voyager series. It’s a UK cast, so you have to get used to things like a Scottish-sounding Romulan, but it’s pretty well done.
I remember, back in the early eighties, there was a British show known as The Tripods anyone watched that?
I also remember another UK show; where the host lived on the rooftop and did book reviews. The intro theme was Paganini’s Capriccio no.24 and the outro was the Deerhunter theme I think. And there was a little plasticene man that was quite entertaining. Anyone can help me with this and remember the name of that show?
Ooh! I also remember there was an American production back in '88/'89 hosted by William Hurt, known as The Storyteller. For anyone into books, mythologies & antropology, that series rocked!
Thanks for the heads-up! I didn’t know it was out yet, and I’ve been looking forward to this. Off to download now…
Welcome aboard, McGee.
Saw it twice now, and I must say it’s one of their better ones. Their production values are the highest in fanfilmdom (they get a lot of help from pros.) The writing on this one is better, as is the editing. The effects are a bit over the top, as always.
Acting still needs work. Pity the old new Spock left, I don’t like this one at all. He’s got a bit of Agent Smith going on. Scotty is just rough. McCoy is sidelined enough that he comes across OK. Kirk is still… well, James Cawley. He’s paying the bulk of the bills, so I guess he’s not going anywhere. The new guys (Peter Kirk (from Hidden Frontiers) and his SO) are good. The best acting is by the background guys, this time Nick Cook (Ensign Eaten-by-Bloodworms (from Starship Intrepid.))
Overall, worth watching, and trending in the right direction. Arguably their best one yet.
Thanks for the welcome, Pike!
Watching now… man, it was tough to see Enterprise beat up like that. I HATE almost all the interpretations of classic characters in this, especially Spock (bleah! geeky and not in a good way). LOVE Chekov, though. He’s just fantastic. Really glad to see him back. The special effects sure are nice. Good script, too. (I always liked David Gerrold’s.) Too bad the acting can’t match the rest of the production values.
Loved this part:
“Guess who?”
“Mmmmm… Mr. Sulu.”
“You wish!”
LOL
Speaking as a girl, those two are pretty sexy together, but Peter Kirk needs a haircut. Whatever happened to the ol’ pointy sideburns look?
There are a lot of nice little moments and quips between characters in this (esp. minor ones).
Also liked:
“Relax, Jim. We don’t put bull’s-eyes on the red shirts any more.”
Ha!!
I like Lt. DeSalle. And I really like Peter Kirk’s boyfriend.
Spock always has a look on his face like he’s about to throw up.
WOW, I love Chekov. I would watch this show just for Chekov!
Aaaaaah! Those bloodworms are HORRIBLE! Awesome! Yeah, Ensign Eaten-By-Bloodworms was a good actor. (Not just while being eaten, I mean. Good character in general.)
I really like the humor in this series… the camaraderie and little witty exchanges between characters.
Bleah, bloodworms!!! When’s Part Two coming out??? Six months from now?
DeSalle is always a scene-stealer, and Checkov is scary good.
Also loved: “I’ve been in worse situations.”
“Really?”
“No, not really.”
