According to Variety, studio insiders said that J.J. Abrams Star Trek prequel movie has the potential to gross more in May than in December. The movie has no competition in its new slot–at least not so far. One week earlier, 20th Century Fox bows X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
They pushed it back almost half a year because they’re afraid of competition? You know, there were times when other companies shuffled their movie release dates around because THEY were afraid of STAR TREK!
My guess is they don’t want to fall in the same pit that Nemesis did. I really enjoyed Nemesis, but it gets a bad rap. That Christmas release put it with a number of more wide-audience flicks that I think really kicked off the negativity.
Such as a LotR movie… Not a good movie to have out at the same time as a Star Trek movie.
Well this gives me plenty of time to work through the 400 hours of material I have left to watch. This still annoys me though, whilst it’s nice being able to go back through a series there’s always something to be said for the first new thing whilst you’re aware of it. I mean “Die another Day,” is one of my favorite bond films even though I recognise it as one of the worst because it was the first time I was old enough to see it in the cinema.
Also may i say Firebreathingchicken you have one of the best names I’ve seen on a forum, though thats probably because I have 29 chickens…and a duck.
I know what you mean. That can be a pretty strong bond, seeing something for the first time.
incidentally, the first Bond I saw in the theater was GoldenEye and I’ve favored it ever since.
interesting

My first Bond movie at a theater was “For Your Eyes Only” and I thought it was amazing, in part because I was nine and had not seen to much else. Even at age nine, I knew some of the lines were overly cheesy. I had the sound track stuck in my head, so I bought the LP and years later I had to buy the CD. The music is a mix of disco, pop, and orchestra.
I am really glad the new trend in Bond films is more like the old bond films where it is gritty instead of cheesy. With that said, I still really enjoyed watching Roger Moore as Bond.
For your eyes only is one of the best bonds ever. right up there with casino royale and goldfinger
I’m ready to disagree with anyone who holds Casino Royale to be one of the “best Bonds.”
Casino Royale works okay as a regular action movie, but it lacks ALL of what made Bond great in the 70s and that’s mostly Roger Moore and what he brought to the genre. One-liners and witticism.
Kinda like how UHF went up against Batman. Totally screwed them over, it did.
Agreed. I watched Nemisis again for the first time since seeing it in the theatre. It’s good, but I seem to remember not liking it in the theatre. I blame the release for it too.
Feeling chilly, GR? Nice scarf
