I made a post on the GWC blog about this several weeks back, actually.
I’ve been following the (slow) progress of Purefold since its initial announcement, and interacted a bit with the minds behind it on the project’s discussion group. Right now, I’d say my feelings can be best described as cautious optimism. I really like – in principle – where they’re going with this. That said, there are so many ways that Purefold could go awry that it’s hard to get too psyched.
My main concern is the business model itself. With financing coming solely from companies developing products and brands, I have to question how much influence these companies will have. If it reaches a point where their influence surpasses that of the active community, I think the noble ideal of Purefold collapses at a fundamental level.
Either way, though, it’s going to be fun to see how it goes.
