New Community Blog Feature: Interesting Post

Those of you who read the GWC Community Blog may have noticed a new feature we added yesterday – specifically, the “Interesting Post” button under each blog post. Here’s the idea:

Whenever a post catches your interest, click the button. The blog will simply register your click and return you to the page. There’s no message or anything – it just records the click.

As you can see in the description (click “What’s This?” to read), we’re not trying to implement some detailed scoring system. We don’t try to prevent gaming of the system, and we don’t make the results public. We do however, use our common sense and look at the logs if needed to interpret the data.

In short:

[ul]
[li]DON’T click the button on a post more than once[/li][li]DON’T look for the results to be made public. They’re not, as it’s not a contest.[/li][/ul]

[ul]
[li]DO click the button once if a post catches your interest and/or you’d like to see more like it[/li][li]DO feel free to click the button on any and all posts that catch your interest, even if it’s more than one post a day (or even every single post)[/li][/ul]
We’ll use the data for a number of purposes, but the first will be including one post in the podcast each week. The reported numbers won’t be the only criteria for this – we’ll also take into account the comments on the post and the discussion/buzz it generates – but it’ll be a good indicator of where we should look.

So have fun with it, and thanks for reading the blog. A number of GWCers have really put their hearts into it, and it shows. Thanks so much to them for stepping up to help keep the community informed and entertained!
