Hello, I’m new here. I found this site because I heard about “Galactica Watercooler” on some other podcasts (mostly LOST podcasts). I always wanted to start watching this show because I heard so many good things about it, but I didn’t have television for a long time and then when I did, it was too far into the show to get involved. I also didn’t know anyone who had the DVDs then, so I just started watching it now.

So far I’ve only watched the mini-series and the first episode of Season 1. I like it already. But, I was wondering if I could get some help as far as websites to check out, podcasts to listen to about Battlestar Galactica, etc. I looked on iTunes but the “Galactic Watercooler” podcasts don’t go back that far. Which ones should I listen to? I also found Ronald D. Moore’s podcast and will give that a listen, as I’ve heard good things about that one too.

I’d appreciate any suggestions. Also, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, wasn’t really sure where to post it. Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Jason! We are always happy to have new people around here. (Notice I didn’t call you a newbie or a noob. We don’t treat people that way at GWC. We really ARE the friendliest people in sci-fi. And sometimes the wackiest.)

If you don’t mind spilling the beans, which LOST (or other) podcasts did you hear GWC mentioned on? I’m just curious as a GWC listener, especially since I’m a big LOST fan too.

GWC 'casts do go all the way back to between seasons 2 & 3 if you go here. You can find podcast #1 on up. (I noticed that iTunes appears to only have from #135 on.)

Welcome, Jason. Enjoy BSG. Man, getting to see it for the first time must be a thrill (wait, it wasn’t that long ago that I can’t remember what it was like. It IS a thrill!).

You can’t go wrong either with GWC, which started during the hiatus between sesons 2 and 3. There are commentary podcasts for seasons 1-3 which the gang did during the hiatus between seasons 3 and 4.0 which are worth listening to as well.

Ron Moore’s podcast is great. Those should be included as the commenary tracks on the DVD set. It looks like you can go all the way back to episode 109 (“Tigh me Up Tigh me Down,” I think), which is the first episode Ron made a podcast for.

Enjoy, man! And feel free to post your comments on the episodes as you watch them. Many of us do unofficial rewatches of the series (I’m about up to “Revelations” in mine) and would love to hear your thoughts on encountering the series for the first time.

I’m pretty sure I heard about it on The LOST Podcast with Jay and Jack and The LOST Flashbacks as well.

Could you tell me about which number podcast the commentary for Season 1 started?

Thanks so much for the feedback guys. It’s a little overwhelming starting to watch a show with so much depth and history. The only thing I really knew going in (because I knew I’d end up watching it eventually, so I tried to stay away from spoilers) was cylons and they say “frak” a lot.

I agree with Armando, since I always enjoy hearing how people react to the show. So, just post anything about the show and get ready for the responses to roll in! Everyone is very friendly here.

I took a look at the blog archives, and it looks like #38 is the first of the commentary podcasts for season 1. it’s for the episode “33”.

You might want to wait until you’ve watched the first two seasons before hitting any of the older 'casts. GWC started just before Season 3, and those are rewatches (done during the post-season three hiatus) so they might be spoilery (it was assumed you’d seen the first three seasons during the rewatch.)

Welcome aboard! I agree with Pike, wait until you are done with season 2 then you can start listening to GWC after each new season 3 episode without worrying about spoilers. Also in between season 2 and 3 be sure to check out “The Resistance” webisodes, which was actually the first thing GWC podcasted about.

If you feel like discussing stuff earlier then that, just post in this forum and put a warning that you do not want spoilers, and I’m sure lots of people will be happy to chat.

Besides GWC of course, you might want to check out:

Galactica Sitrep (another fan site)
BSG Wiki (Wiki on both TOS and this re-imagined version)

Although, truthfully, you may want to stay away from these, seeing as how you’re just starting out, and there are a lot of spoilers to avoid. Maybe you’d want to finish the series first.

Actually, I’m kinda curious… how much of the series has been “spoiled” for you already? (hopefully not too much)

Thanks for the links. I’ve learned pretty quickly that I should probably stay away from looking at too many websites or listening to podcasts before I get further into the show.

In knowing that I’d probably watch the show eventually, I tried to stay away from too much talk about it. Even if I had listened at the time, I probably didn’t know what they were talking about anyway, and forgot most of it. Although, I do know a little about the end of the show, which kinda sucks.
