need some help with my ps2

it doesn’t seem to read any game disks just scans and scans and then gives me the disk error message. tried a new disk aswell, so i don’t think its the disks to blame

but it stil play’s dvd’s just fine.

anyone know what to do? besides skeet shooting off my balcony

No, doing a tech shoot is very possibly not a good idea. If the PS2 still plays DVDs you can still use the PS2 for that. If memory serves two different lasers are used for reading discs with one for DVD video discs and one for game discs.

The least destructive alternative to a tech shoot is to get a DVD player cleaning kit and trying that. Failing that I would take it in for repairs. Once those two options are exhausted…then impact weapons are appropriate perhaps.

AH

already tried cleaning it, and no joy. its been around a while its one of the originals so i might just have to get a new one, not sure its worth the price for repairs.

Take a read through this http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/915821/16189

It might be worth a go if it completely messes up you machine, no real harm done it needed replacing anyway. PS2s are pretty cheap these days anyway. I assume as it is one of the originals the warranty is long expired, so nothing really to lose.

As my PS2 got older I had to do the typical laser realignment sugeries. It wasn’t too terribly difficult for someone that is comfortable looking at the innards of an expensive toy and only required the use of several screw drivers.

My Xbox died in Afghanistan. I decided to use the dead machine as a teaching aid in a demolitions class. We packed the thing with C4, and blew it up. Great stress relief. Almost like Jim(or was it Peter?) and crew off of “Office Space” beating the craaaaaap out of their printer. My advice? Wait for one of those bad days, and shoot the PS2. Its probably a fracking Cylon anyways. You can probably find a decent PS2 for under 50$ in better condition.
