Need better phone reception indoors

HALP! I haz a ishoe…

My boyfriends house is made of stone walls and therefore we all get absolutely terrible reception inside. I’ve done a small amount of research into the different options of hooking something up to either an antennae or internet connection to increase the phone reception inside but really don’t know what the best option would be. We need to figure something out, he has to walk outside to make/take business phone calls and someday I’ll end up living there and would like to also use the phone inside.

Any advice or know of something that would work?

I had terrible, nearly nonexistent reception in my apartment for almost the full 2 years I’ve lived here.

Early this year I was due for a new phone and decided to upgrade to Android. When I went to the ATT store I told them that the only thing holding me back was that I get no reception in my apartment. The nice, commission-based salesman looked up my address and said, “Oh, yeah, you sure don’t get any ATT reception there!” He gave me one of these for free with my phone purchase and commitment to the data plan. Now I have full bars everywhere in the apt except the kitchen.

yep, basically a smaller repeater… though… yeah… don’t stand too close to it…

if you wonder why i said that…

WHO (World Health Organization) has put out an official study on cellphone causing brain cancer. This is what they said:

“What microwave radiation does in most simplistic terms is similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain,” Black said. “So in addition to leading to a development of cancer and tumors, there could be a whole host of other effects like cognitive memory function, since the memory temporal lobes are where we hold our cell phones.”

Results from the largest international study on cell phones and cancer was released in 2010. It showed participants in the study who used a cell phone for 10 years or more had doubled the rate of brain glioma, a type of tumor. To date, there have been no long-term studies on the effects of cell phone usage among children.

“Children’s skulls and scalps are thinner. So the radiation can penetrate deeper into the brain of children and young adults. Their cells are at a dividing faster rate, so the impact of radiation can be much larger.” said Black of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

They are listing cellphones in the same categories of likely to cause cancer with lead, engine exhaust, and chloroform. So yeah, if you are putting a repeater in your home… just don’t be too close to it…

Thanks! I like the look of the zboost, might look at the 15 foot gap one they mentioned too, it’s a two story house, but with the stone walls, I’m wondering how well something going between floors would help.

We have different cellular plans (I’m on Verizon and he has Sprint) so I think something that supports any carrier would be a better option.

I’ll make sure we keep everything out of the cancer-causing range as well, thanks for the heads-up. My mom is pretty adamant about the cell phone causing cancer thing so I’m sure she’ll want to make sure I follow the ‘distance away from your head’ rules.

If you’re also avoiding coffee and pickled veggies, then you probably should be concerned. Otherwise, don’t worry about it.

i already avoid coffee. from an eastern medicine stand point, coffee’s horrible (more to do with the way it’s roasted than the beans themselves).

also not much of a fan of pickled viggies… but i can’t say no to kimchee…

i wonder what exactly in the pickled veggies is bad though…
