This Galactica mutiny is a frakked up mess. The only somewhat civil mutiny that i can think of that is caught on film is from the movie Crimson Tide.
Few if any deaths over a disagreement on a message.
Can anyone come up with a better movie or situation where you can have a peaceful mutiny?
Yeah… at least Adama has the brass one’s to pull the trigger himself, like when he and Tigh take the security guards… Gaeta, if he had any guts, shoulda pulled the trigger right there, and told the guards to drag him out. Come to think of it, I don’t remember ever seeing Gaeta get his hands dirty (like Zarek)… am I wrong?
because Gaeta is not a killer, he’s not making a power move driven by greed or glory or anything like that. he’s just trying to stop a situation that has gone to hell in a handbasket from degenerating any further.
Are we talking in the mutiny, or in general? Because I’d say stabbing Baltar and BYBBQ8 qualifies as getting one’s hands dirty. As for the mutiny itself, for one, I don’t think he has a gun–Galactica personnel, excepting marines, obviously, don’t carry sidearms for regular duty. I think somebody would’ve noticed if Gaeta had decided to bring a weapon to work today. More pertinently, I don’t think he thought it would be a bloodless coup, but I also don’t think he completely understands how bloody it’s going to get. He seemed angry about Zarek killing Laird, and he was really upset that the marines opened fire without his orders.
The Mutiny on the Bounty was bloodless (although arguably only b/c of Bligh’s seamanship.) Gaeta seems to have been striving for that. Zarek, not so much.
And if we’re talking dirty with things besides blood - how about perjury?
I thought Baltar’s comment about a secret with a pen could refer to two things - obviously, 1) butterfingers moment and 2) when Baltar was forced to sign execution orders at gunpoint. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it.
But I have to say, the perjury is the first time when I was like, Gaeta, you suck big time.
I stand corrected… wasn’t thinking it through… 4 seasons of story have muddled my mind…
I guess Gaeta’s naivete irritates me, like Kappa says above… maybe I misunderstand him, but he seems genuinely surprised that all this blood will be shed cause of his decision to mutiny.
