More Villainous? Lex Luther vs Tess Mercer

Smallville timeline only please. If we count comics, movies, other series, etc., then Tess wouldn’t stand a chance.

In one corner is Lex. He killed his father, convinced his former best friend’s love interest she was pregnant, tortured Impulse (Flash), and convinced stated murdered father to be evil again after he tried to go clean.

Other corner is Tess. She kidnapped Lois to violate her memories, kidnapped Jor-el which led to his death, helped Doomsday, would potentially bring about the demise of mankind, and literally shoots her assistants in the back.

Plus, there’s all the things I forgot off the top of my head. I know Tess is supposed to be another Lex, but Lex rarely got his hands dirty. Aside from torturing Impulse and killing is father (which I suppose should be done personally if one is gonna do that), he usually lets others do the dirty work. Tess doesn’t seem to have qualms about that.

Note: I’m excluding the Baltar option for fear he’d Ross Perot the votes. d:

I am tempted to put Chloe in the running though… Plus, Lana was teetering on the darkside for a season too (with good reasons), but I think she’ll be ok.

Tess… if anyone wants to make Zod feel like he’s been played, it’s Tess…

Wow, I’m surprised Tess got first vote. This might be a closer contest than I thought.

Does this answer your question?

Lex really let others get their hands dirty besides the patricide and some other things.
Only have to compare what we’ve seen Tess do in her 1 1/2 seasons to Lex’s 7.

But, but… Tess is so pretty! How can she be evil?

the road to hell is paved with good intentions… and Tess happened to adopt that road also with good intentions…

actually the more evil she is, the hotter she has gotten for me…

I want to brush her hair while she details to me her nefarious plans.

and feed her grapes… that’s the life…

I’m beginning to see how Tess can win now. ^^

Lex by a hair but its almost a complete draw, i just think Tess is more pragmatic, about her goals, she’ll rape. murder and set anyone in her way on fire. but her goals are not about her ego, or personal power. Lex was more doing bad for himself so he’s a little more villainous to me.

hahaha, i like that expression… perhaps a hair is all Lex has left.

In all fairness, that was when he split his evil and good side apart. I’m not so sure that should count.

I vote Lex cause he seemed to think ahead more, that’s why he never got his hands dirty. Tess feels more like she’s playing it by ear in my opinion.

True I guess.

I just voted Lex. Killing his father and making a woman who doesn’t love you think she’s pregnant for months is just… Yeah…

Maybe we’ll have to revisit this poll as the season progress though.

to me Lex just seems bat crazy more than villainous, even if he does think far ahead.

I mean besides pissing off Clark, what did Lex really benefit from making Lana believe that she was pregnant? Also I always wondered why Lionel felt the need to force Lana to marry Lex?

By the way, I think before finding out her baby was fake, Lana was in love with Lex.

there’s a couple of seasons when smallville writing didn’t make any sense to me… Glad that’s over now…

Bat crazy maybe have some credence, but most of the time, he was out for himself especially when it coincided with “benefiting” mankind. d: He and Tess share that trait.

I assume Lex got some “benefits” with that charade. I think Lana cared for him, but I don’t think she was in love. Still, that would further explain why she went dark side the next season.

I was confused most the season when Lana became a witch. Wth?

I was more confused somewhere between Season 6 and Season 7, when Martha and Chloe will give Clark one advice in one episode, and completely give the opposite advice the next episode.

One episode they’d be “you should just let go”, the next episode they’d say “are you just going to let her out of your life?”

that’s when I was going completely berserk on smallville writing.

Was that before or after Clark KO’d the relationship when he decided not to tell her his secret to save her life (unwittingly at the expense of Jonathon’s)? Clark screwed the pooch very badly (wrt Lana) and had to be talked down after that.

Upon further reflection, maybe Martha and Chloe just didn’t want to see Lex get Lana (who would except Lionel?).
