Minecraft

I’m on a friend’s SMP server. I just finished a subway from the spawn point (protected by cactus) to our main base, and we’ve boosted tracks between various outposts.

So much darn fun!

Notch announced today that it will be going Beta on the 20th of Dec. If you like it and haven’t bought it, the alpha price will be good till then.

Minecraft has eaten my brain over the last few months; I’ve played it far more than anything else (and that includes Fallout: New Vegas).

I’ve been playing on an SMP server from another site (Gamers With Jobs). Our server is at liquidmantis.com if y’all want to pop in and look around; building is limited to members of our forum but anyone can visit.

Anyone know any other good SMP servers to visit?

16 bit ALU in minecraft… my mind is blown

so… those animals running around in the ALU, are they the equivalent of bugs?

GWC Logo turned out good.

Wow. Yes it did.

Better late than never? A friend gave me minecraft, and I’m in need of sleep now. I’ll be like, huh, I’ll just play for an hour, and then end up playing for hours into the wee night. It’s awful, really.

This game is addictive as hell. And I’m not even doing any crazy building yet, mostly just exploring the world I’m in and trying to survive (but managed to get 3 dogs, lol. I love those dogs!) and a whole lot of digging and mob killing, I guess. Man, those creepers. But have been playing some parkour maps on my friend’s server, which has been quite fun (and challenging since I’m on a laptop and usually play with the touchpad instead of a mouse), and I love the different texture packs and skins and whatnots.

question: I’m not sure what I pressed, but my menu, HUD, inventory, all the menus, has shrunk in size, and I’m not sure what to press to enlarge it to the normal size again. Any pointers?

Also, any recs for fun multiplayer servers or custom maps?

And wow, I love the GWC logo. Nice work.

Hit ESC, go into Options, Video Settings, and somewhere in there is “HUD SIZE”.

I’d check it now but for some reason my “video settings” crashes Minecraft

Yaaay beta!

Huh, I just logged on, and all the menus are back to regular size. But I’ll keep that in mind next time I accidentally change the size.

Yeah. Somehow my java is ‘running out of memory’ or some such. I can still play, but the game shuts off from time to time.

Which could be a blessing in disguise. It’s like my computer’s way of telling me I need to STOP PLAYING.

Interview with the men behind Minecraft.

Holy crap, sir, that’s awesome!

I’ve been playing for a while now, and have started to try out some of Vechs’ Super-Hostile maps, which are maps that are custom-built to have a purpose, usually collecting items for a victory monument. If you haven’t already, check out Zisteau’s Youtube series for “Kaizo Caverns” - it starts out slow but is a lot of fun, and the guy has a great narrative pace and sense of humour.

EDIT: Damnit, how do you embed a video on the forum?

Cool beans. Super hostile maps are fun (I’m on one too, but it has a different name, I think) but also enraging since I tend to die a lot in those. Doesn’t help things since I have a few mods on it so there are hostile mobs everywhere all the time. On the upside, I have a puma for a pet, and he rocks. (I go through quite a number of pets. They keep dying on me! heh. Except for the rabbits. In my regular map I made this giant glass room and stuck 2 rabbits in there early on, and now there are dozens and dozens of them jammed in that room. Those rabbits reproduce… like rabbits. On the other hand, I failed completely at making a sheep farm. It took me some time to wrangle a whole bunch of sheep into this pen I built (thinking it would be a good wool collecting setup) only to have the lot of them despawn when I moved away from the area. So it seems like only certain animals despawn and others don’t.

But anyway, yeah, fun times, thanks to all the custom maps and mods and stuff.
