Matrix: Animatrix Re-watch

We decided to just stick with the main movies for the frak parties. So in your own time watch the Animatrix and discuss the DVD here.

Dont forget to check out the Matrix comics. 2 trades that cover some more areas of the story, like why the one machine went berzerk. (the one that started the persicution of the machines–SPOILER***—it was an asshead of a human)(betcha couldnt have guessed that). There are a few more stories, most depressing, but they add another dimention. Another thing for a fan to hit is the PS2 games. They have content that blend into the movie–cut scences that were not on screen. So they just dont have the rehashing “Enter the Matrix” tell alot more of the Niobi and Ghost story that wasnt in the movie, and “Path of Neo” is kickin ass with the computer christ.

I wanna jack in my head so I can play Battlefield or Halflife in true 1st person.

In the beginning, there was man. And for a time, it was good. But humanity’s so-called civil societies soon fell victim to vanity and corruption. Then man made the machine in his own likeness. Thus did man become the architect of his own demise.
Here is your space to discuss the Animatrix. I personally can attest to the fact that this is a remarkable film of films. Each one has its own take on the mythology of the Matrix…some are origin stories, others are alternate stories within the Matrix.

They are all very well done and worth your time. Rent, borrow or buy this one…whatever you think of the second and third movies (and hopefully you like those better now) this one is on the money.

Enjoy.

It’s an animation festival on DVD.

the forum was down! i was so scared!

… are easily the best two segments, then the Second Renaissance. I love how existential and thought provoking Matriculated is, and the monkey!

Quote of the week.

I love this movie. I guess the thing that really struck me was the humanity of the machines. They were brutally killed, butchered, and distroyed; but when they defeated their oppressors, they didnt distroy them. Insted they created a realisitic representation of their world. They gave them back everything they once had, granted, back in time, but still the Earth. There was no need for them to do that, they tirned the other cheek and frogave the humans.
Also, i still have no idea what the hell happened in Matriculated. I get the plot, but not the meaning or story…off to the wiki.

And the inhumanity of the humans.

I’m not sure that the WikiP explanation is the plot. It’s complicated and nuanced, but I read it as the humans trying to leverage the power of the machines against other machines by providing an overlay of unreality (similar to the Matrix.) The ending is tragic because the machine comes to believe the lie, but the human minder doesn’t.

It has become one of my favorite stories in the movie.

I think ‘Beyond’ is my second favorite mostly for the fact that it hardly feels like a “matrix” movie. It could easily be another anime short film without even being connected to this -verse. I really wish they could have spring boarded this dvd into an entire series, I don’t know how feasible that would be, but these stories should continue on!

I huess my problem was i was trying to read too much into it. I got that, but i thought that I should be word-picking and analising every shape and word.
I get the over-arching theme

I also love that one. Threw me for a loop, but it was an awesome conceot that that could happen in the matrix. Its bad b/c all of the episodes are my favroites.

All of these episodes are great, but the only one I remembered before watching them again was the Second Renaissance. I saw years ago and I still remember it in detail.

I think it was because it struck me as so starkly realistic. No to get too political, but watching certain naive world leaders and others who know more than they should brashly make decisions that have repercussions lasting for generations, I can totally believe that mankind would sanction 01 merely for having a strong currency and buying up world resources with its economic might.

I can see a right to destroy property debate actually happening, and if there are any machine sympathizers, the Three Laws no longer prevent a machine from taking sides.

I also loved the multicultural interfaith army. Quite cool.

Which one had the skeleton horseman riding across with the awesome music? That’s the one that sticks out in me mind.

Yeah, so much so that I forgot the name of the episode and everything. Way to go, buck-o!

I think that re watching this movie does a lot to reinforce the whole intimacy of fighting in the Matrix which I totally missed to first time around watching any of the Matrix movies. This is true in Program and in the Final Flight of the Osiris

And about the renaissance part I, the narrator refers to herself as the Zion archive right? So is that some program in Zion that people can just access to remind themselves that Humans caused all their own problems. Kind of like when you are feeling ignorant and aggressive go down to the Zion archive remind yourself of the kind of damage that can cause and then get all Peace, Love, Unity and Respect at the next rave.

My favorites are definitely Beyond, Detective Story, and Renaissance Part Deux.

Thanks so much.

Can someone post an English version of Maltriculated here? I’m watching everything on You Tube and it gets confusing which one to watch of each version. Is there a better place to watch online that I’m not trying?

Check this out , very topical, and not to mention it’s a cool song.

Animevenue.com has links to all of them in English in really good quality (veoh links) apart from Second Renaissance part 2 (which I found on youtube). Am working my way through them now. Hope this helps.

edit: Just realised, MAtriculated isn’t in English. Oops, sorry.

So far I’ve watched all except Matriculated and I can definately say I have thoroughly enjoyed this. I was expecting it to be just OK but it is fantastic, especially seeing I’m not the biggest fan of anime. Excluding Matriculated, my fave segment is ‘A Detective Story’ just because I liked the overall feel of the story and I felt so bad for the Detective at the end. (Who’s gonna look after his cat now.) However, all the others are not too far behind in my book.
