Mass effect is going to be one of the biggest games ever if the hype and initial reviews are to be believed, and certainly one aspect of this will be the storyline to the game. I’ve read books and comics based on videogames before and for the most part they’re awful because they were never intended to be made so they either dont fit in with the games plot, conflict with it or almost entirly ignore the game they;'re based on in the first place. That is why this novel is sorefreshing, wirtten by the lead writer for the actualy videogame as a intended piece of work.
The actualy plot of the book is very interesting at the moment, this is serious science fiction at it’s best, the scene is of a newly emerged human race onto the galactic stage, however unfortunatly for us we mistook the initial greetings as hostile and started a small war but luckily peace was reached before we really made a faux pa. Now several years later a human research facility is destroyed, and one woman, kahlee Sanders, who left a day early is the prime suspect. Now the human alliance, the alien goverment and bounty hunters (who is cool, but nothing on the fett) are all pursuing her for their own means. Couple that plot with ancient alien technology, political intrigue and compelling fully developed characters and you get a book that you almost feel sorry that its tied in with a videogame, because a lot of people will dismiss it as 'just a videogam book,"
So thats why I’m nominating it this month.
