Mass Effect News!

Not super surprised because sales are way up again with the discounts. Multiplayer is jam packed at all hours of the day- more so than at launch perhaps. There’s a reason why Bioware fronts ME first over and above its other titles and why its prominently on display in the Origin front end. Not to mention MP as a low lethality shooter is just plain more well designed on the technology side, fun and challenging than half a dozen more recent F2P shooters, and I’ve tried all of them.

Obviously highly contrived if not Shepard-less, so Bioware should probably best go forward gasp without him/her and the Normandy. A new title to perpetuate the franchise really needs a brand new engine, not refurbishing Bioware’s heavily customized Unreal Engine 3.x yet again.

The world is so richly detailed you could tell most any story. The Citadel Year One. A bigger squad based N7 type deal with lots of RPG elements ala ME1 - lots of people miss the original RPG design and don’t like the dumbing down of gear. Really any story but the game version of Paragon Lost starring James Vega, sorry Freddy Prinze, be content with straight to DVD. Would the Adventures of Liara T’Soni have enough mass appeal?

A little more news:
An Update From BioWare Montreal

To sum up:
There will be a new Mass Effect game.
It will be developed by Bioware Montreal (not Edmonton who most of the past ME games)
It will probably be similar to the other games in story and gameplay but with some new elements.
It will be built on the Frostbite engine.
It won’t be out for a long time. (Maybe on the next Microsoft console?)

Hey guys,

Bit more ME3 Multiplayer news. The US Thanksgiving weekend challenge was Operation Privateer with the “Corsair” Banner and a commendation pack as the award. It perfectly ties in with Aria and the Retake Omega DLC that drops tomorrow.

Loving ME3 Multiplayer, and working on the Marksman (Assault Rifle) banner next after grabbing the Mathemagician banner for Tech powers.

If you’re up for bashing some Cerberus/Geth/Collectors/Reapers kick me an invite

Not only the largest DLC in Mass Effect’s history but the largest sized content package Bioware says they can deploy as a DLC… (download is 1.9 GB, almost a fifth the size of the base install)

$15 with 28 shopping days before Christmas? Hmmm.

Hey Amberite, what platform do you play on?

Omega looks pretty sweet, I am going to get it for sure. I just started my second play through of Mass Effect 3. This time I will have Omega, Leviathan, and the new ending, so it should be different enough to keep me guessing.

Heya Fen’

I’m on PS3 - PSN username MediaDuo

I actually stopped my main campaign a couple months ago when they first hinted at the Omega DLC so i could have it occur in the middle of the storyline. Good thing I’ve been playing a lot of multiplayer (and Dishonoured) in the interim.

I tend to play Engineers and Sentinels on Multiplayer, bust stick with a tried and true Infiltrator in the campaigns. I’ve switched my N7 HQ profile (linked in my last post) over to public, so if you tried to look at it before and it was blocked out, that was the reason.

Looking forward to taking down Cerberus on Omega and grabbing a drink in Afterlife to celebrate!

N7 Top 4%!

“DAMMIT!” - Cerberus Assault Trooper

I’m doubled parked in the top 12% :o

ADD: Thorniest on PC

No shame in that ThPrime  I’m hoping to move up to 3% with a few more N7 promotes in the next couple days (/fingerscrossed). I’ve got a few characters parked at Lvl 18 / 19. I actually use the crappy DataPad app as well to keep my readiness rating at 100% to max out my xp when I’m playing, which helps too.

My latest issue is that I’ve been working on different challenges, which means I have to keep changing character classes and weapons, which introduces a new learning curve each time, instead of just sitting back and rocking an engineer or sentinel with either a Phaeton or Cerberus Harrier. I am officially crappy at playing an Adept…

I think I’ve promoted around 20 characters, putting me at around 1,500 war assets as a base in the campaign. I actually think it would be cool to get it to over 1,750 (75*24) and effectively wipe out the possibility of the worst ending with the extended cut DLC installed.

ThPrime, what’s your username/platform?

Fen, I’ve just clicked to join the GWC Steam group. Username is Neilisntwitty (same as my twitter handle) and the avatar is the same as on the forum.

Operation DETONATOR

“Earn 20,000 Biotic Explosion points on any map at any difficulty. You will need to kill the enemy with the explosion for the points to count”

All squads report for Biotic Splodey duty. :groucho: I finally unlocked the Asari Justicar the other night. Touching off biotic explosions inside the Biotic Sphere evolved into Warp Bubble is fun. Alas she has Liara’s voice. I was totally expecting Samara/Maggie Baird’s voice but more Ali will have to do.

ADD: Lists and tips

Mass Effect Wiki: Power Combos (Biotic Explosion)

Bioware: Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Discussion: List of biotic and elemental (tech) combos

Dig in there for a discussion of tech powers complementing/interfering/taking precedence over biotic detonations. Biotic and tech users clashing with each other’s combos should be less of a problem during the Detonator challenge weekend, biotic classes will predominate matches. If you’re on a mixed team go after targets by yourself, or shared with other biotic users, for a higher success rate at priming and detonating targets.

6030/20000 in one silver match. Reapers offer lots of unshielded squishy troops to blow up quickly and easily. Armored Banshees and Brutes are tough because the detonating biotic must be the last killing blow in order to cause a biotic explosion (tech combos work in the same way). So that was a lot of singularities thrown and I have a strong impression I annoyed my teammates although one other was trying every bit as hard to trigger explosions. I did try to be a nice biotic and avoid shockwaves because while they do yield bigger detonations they can jiggle up everyone’s aim close by. Maybe biotic grenades next match.

Yeah… It’s like the universe wanted to make a point after I wrote that post… :stuck_out_tongue:

I play on PC, unfortunately I don’t think those are compatible. I got Omega too, I was waiting to start my replay until it got close to being released. Still not to far along, and Far Cry 3 may delay it further.

Didn’t get a whole lot of time to play this weekend amidst house renovations. The biotic 'Splody challenge wasn’t helped by the fact that most of the PUGs I joined were full of combat and tech spec’ed players (side note: Aaaargh!!!). I did have fun playing as an Asari, and a fully evolved Throw does bring a tear to my eye as enemies go flying! Sitting by the edge of the landing pad on firebase: White and blowing Cerberus troopers off the edge never gets old

I did manage to move up to Top 3% in N7 ranking, which was cool, but I didn’t progress on the Marksman challenge, which has been my main focus lately. I think I’ll finish off spec’ing my Asari for Stasis and switch back over to the M-99 Sabre to try and finish off the Asari Commando waves challenge (at 128 of 200) in the Commando Mastery challenge.

Edit: ThPrime - Nicely done Sir on rocking the weekend Challenge! Looks like you’re about to grab both Tech and biotic Mastery as well.

Close on the heels of the Omega DLC, it looks like BioWare is working on the next DLC release.

OPERATION: ONSLAUGHT

Shoot everything that moves with assault rifles for 75,000 points.

Recipe for a quick 33,000 points: N7 Destroyer Soldier, M-76 Revenant, AR Magazine V, double AR amps. DEVASTATOR MODE ENGAGED. Boy that gun is noisy. And it shakes the screen. And your squaddies complain a lot when moving into your line of fire… frequently… because everything in that general direction is in your line of fire.

Maybe should finish up with a Turian and a quieter precision rifle.

Yay. Hurricane SMG awarded in commendation pack. First new item in the last three challenges.

Nicely done Th!

Yeah, I plowed through the last of my Marksman Challenge with a Turian Havok with Assault Rifle talent build, and an M-76 Revenant with stability and damage mods. Even with stability mods + stability talents that thing pulls like a sum-ov-a-beyotch. Didn’t take long to snag the Onslaught commendation pack, then switched over to the Cerberus Harrier to have a bit of fun. Damn I like that gun. Nothing memorable in the commendation pack that jumps to mind.

Easy Weekend Challenge in Mass Effect Multiplayer this week

http://blog.bioware.com/2012/12/13/operation-alamo/

Team Goal: Earn the “Survived 5 Waves” medal on the Firebase Condor map at any difficulty. Extraction not required.

…and to think that with limited time to play this weekend I was worried I woulnd’t get this weekend’s medal.

Easy if you solo or play with a trusted team. ME3 has a great community but everyone tends to do their own thing when it comes to completing challenges. The average reaction in the forums for most challenges, including this one, is, yeah I can do this solo in ten minutes.

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Discussion: Operation: ALAMO (Dec. 14 - 16) (Now up to nine pages of whining. And I thought I was pessimistic!)

As a co-op challenge, five consecutive waves in a public game, especially on Condor, is going to be extremely frustrating. No one on the team can fall. The west end of Condor has good cover but very short claustrophobic lines of sight. The east end has longer lines of sight but from limited cover exposed to three different very narrow approaches. If a wave has multiple spawn locations and you’re hunkered down on the east end you’re pinned down until you clear one of those lanes for an escape. Alamo is a fitting description of what you’re supposed to do, defend the same position as a group, but I almost never see that happen until its time for extraction.

This map is among the most difficult maps to beat, as the constant firepower provided by the geth, the rapid closing the Reapers offer and the tactical superiority of Cerberus can easily overwhelm players scattered around the large map. Players are advised to stick together and move together covering each others flanks. - Mass Effect Wiki: Firebase Condor

It’s Krogan time.

This guy is as slow as turtle, but he never dies. Ever.

Silver difficulty Firebase Condor after action report:

Attempt #1: Evidently a player tried to solo silver or was otherwise abandoned by his team. As other team members arrived, he was already dying. We left. Don’t look at me like that. I did not leave first.
Attempt #2: Joined a team that had a Volus Mercenary. I don’t want to talk about it. Consumables resupplied.
Attempt #3: When in doubt, yes, Krogan up. Me as barrier reinforced meat shield, a Vanguard to attack our flanks, Infiltrator for high DPS, and another Volus Mercenary of all things. Don’t let that little guy’s score mislead. The decoy never appeared so evidently those points were well invested boosting other skills. Unlike his/her predecessor, He/She was too busy spamming shield boost for all of us to solo many kills for his/her self. Not only did we get a ten wave medal, I didn’t hear anyone call out that their shield dropped even once. Take a bow random pub team.

I really need to catch up on the Multiplayer DLCs. Volus characters? Hope there’s a “Biotic God”
