man with no name trilogy

Some call it the dollars trilogy as well; but whatever you call it i’m gonna do a marathon this weekend. I have never seen any of them as of yet; but i’m looking forward to some 6 shooter badass-ery. on saturday

I dare you to find something more manly.

With all due respect to all the movies, the first two – for my money – feel like dry runs for the third one. Good Bad Ugly is on its own level.

I had heard so much about these films but I’m not into Westerns. For a lark, I rented them from Netflix and watched them. I was thoroughly engaged and entertained.

I really enjoyed that the films touch on the gritty aspect of the West. Most Westerns show the moral cowboy who will save the day. The Man with No Name is no white hat, shining star character. He is a hero but is not held to a moral compass. He is a force unleashed on the evil that men do.

While watching A Fistful of Dollars I had the strange feeling I had seen it before. Then, it hit me. “This is Yojimbo!!” I had seen the Kurosawa film, months earlier. I later found out that producers of Yojimbo filed a lawsuit because of the resemblance.

I am disappointed that this has nothing to do with Zapp Brannigan

whats a Brannigan?

watched the first one not very impressed… but will get too two and three tomorrow.

If two starts to bore you, take a breather and just skip ahead to three.

second movie a few more dollars great…

seriously great; the soundtrack was less annoying still mildly but i wasn’t begging for it to stop halfway through the movie. the characters were more flushed out. and the end,

i was having a problem with my arithmetic…

slow clap

edited to say

Lee Van Cleef is my new western hero

Marty McFly liked the series…

good the bad and the ugly epic in scale, i think they figured out that these stories work best when they are not focused on “the man with no name,” but those around him. he’s. like kaiser Sosa. still think for a few more dollars is my favorite TGTB&TU was a little unfocused.

overall really good series with moments of greatness.

If you like these, Once Upon a Time in the West might be a good watch too. It has a great performance by Henry Fonda playing against type in a truly juicy bad-guy role, and some stellar music by the great Ennio Morricone.

here is my two cents…

I don’t consider it “man with no name” trilogy.

I believe it is a four part story of william Mony… and unforgiven is the finale chapter to the story.

IMHO…

Yeah. That’s a fair statement. Good the Bad and the Ugly is a true classic movie. About … 6 or 7 seven years ago I got really into the Western genre and realized I’d never sat down and watch these movies.
Clint’s character is awesome in all three movies, but yeah, the 3rd movie is definitely a whole other level in terms of quality.

If any of you are familiar with Akira Kurosawa, the first movie is actually a remake of his movie “Yojimbo.”

Just thought I’d throw that out there for any geeks who like random facts.

Sergio Leone’s trilogy to me shows what westerns up to this point were missing: atmosphere. Sure the west had dangers filled to the brim, but what old schoolers like Ford and Hawkes missed was the smell of sweat and stinky tobacco, the steely look in that old man’s eye, the sense that you weren’t a resident but a survivor. I love how in GBU the storekeeps talk about the lousy money the rebels had but cheered them on because to do otherwise would mean death. Morality means something different in Leone’s west. There are no angels, no innocence.
