Lucifer's Hammer

A big book full of great characters. A lot of us might have already read it, but I thought I’d submit it for consideration.

Love Larry Niven’s work. Fallen Angels is another one of his that is great.

still remember the scene (ene with the way it was described) when the surfer paddles out…starts riding the wave - and it describes how he travels looking downa dn Wilshie…passing the 405…smack into the Federal building…
Living in LA - I know exactly the routes. Really sweet

oh yeah, that one was cool. I read it in 2004 when I was in hospital for a week. forget about Armageddon and all that stuff, Lucifer’s Hammer started it all. really nightmarish setting…

I also read Footfall half a year ago, but… well, it was okay, kind ID4-ish, but Lucifer’s Hammer was better…

Let me correct myself, I’ve also read The Mote in God’s Eye, for which I’m gonna start a new thread now…

This is a really cool book and totally realistic story about what would happen if a comet or asteroid hits the Earth. It deserves a bump up in the list!

I totally agree. Haven’t read this book in years. But I remember it really stayed with me. Very good read.

I’m re-reading it right now and am to the day after Hammerfall.

If we’re talking Pournelle and Niven, though, a far more layered and interesting book (in my opinion) is The Mote In God’s Eye. Certainly it’s an interesting book to read in light of the Galactica ideas of “all this has happened before, and all this will happen again…” after all!

Agreed. And there’s already a thread for it in this subforum!
