Lost in the Follow-verse

[This should exist only here: I got lost on the forums!]

I have only been a member of GWC since 2008. In that time I have grown to love it and the people that surround it. I’m now struck at how much the site has grown and by how much it has changed. There are new people I don’t know and people I do know I don’t recognize. I’ve gone through incarnations myself, being both Thebanite and 64kCylon. Just changing avatars sometimes baffles me and friends then morph into brand new people. Then there’s Twitter and Facebook. Not all of us can make it to meetups to put faces to names. Which brings me to my point: How do you keep track of who matters?

I don’t! I just follow everybody I see with GWC in their Google+ name. It’s a very small number but over time I figure I’ll eventually get everybody

(Don’t Facebook, and Twitter’s slowly fading as I find myself much preferring Google+)

Everybody matters!

I have created a public list on Twitter for GWCers (of course it’s called GWC), you can follow it and get names to follow individuals from there. I’m GryperGWC. You can look at other forum members’ Circles on G+ to get names too.

Best advise is to pick one and stick with it, for me it’s facebook and facebook alone, to me twitter does nothing that I can’t on facebook (well aside of NHL trade deadline day, but I have someone who follows the trade tweets for me…and CM Punk, who’s hilarious!), anything else and you’ll get overwhelmed and go nuts!!

(well and the forum too of course!)

I didn’t mean to say some people don’t matter. There are those of us who have closer ties than others, though.

You didn’t, I was just kidding you.

rinse and repeat.

This information is all wonderful, but don’t some of you find the avatar changes, sig changes, name changes and media changes bewildering? I’ve got some sort of unexpressed frustration here…

As someone who is a repeat offender (Changing my twitter avatar weekly, sometimes daily, and 3 name changes on the forum…sorry :o) I can agree that unless I have met someone in real life or I share a lot of conversation time with them it is hard to keep track. I try not to sweat it too much. There is too much going on everywhere for me to ever keep track so I try to roll with it, be it twitter, the forum, or anywhere. Sometimes the best conversations come from those I barely know, and that’s amazing and fun and a great tribute to the community.

That’s interesting. I follow you on Twitter. I guess it is a question of too much. You’ve let me see how much I wrangle all this with my ifttt recipes and Evernote and Mail and Twitter and web posting & forwards & cross posting. For a while I did all of that with one email. Better to roll.

Well, FastCart was alluding to the creation of a Nomenclature Matrix…
