Lost/BSG similarities

I came across this article today listing a bunch of similarities between Battlestar Galactica and Lost: http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2008/06/battlestar-gala.html

Here are a few more:

  • Multiple occurrences of the same number(s):
    BSG: 12 Cylon models, 12 colonies, Quorum of Twelve, 12 Lords of Kobol
    Lost: Hurley’s numbers appear in multiple places

  • Main characters involved in multiple interweaving relationships:
    BSG: Dualla, Lee, Kara, Anders
    Lost: Juliet, Jack, Kate, Sawyer

  • A leader comes down with cancer that’s later treated/cured:
    BSG: Roslin’s breast cancer is cured by Hera’s blood
    Lost: Ben’s tumor is removed by Jack

  • Survivors of a catastrophe are split up and later reunited:
    BSG: Pegasus comes across Galactica
    Lost: Tail section survivors find Michael, Jin, and Sawyer by chance

  • Who’s one of them?
    BSG: People panic in season 1 because nobody’s sure who’s a Cylon

Flashbacks
BSG: Multiple main characters have flashbacks to when they were on Caprica, often in character-centric episodes
Lost: Multiple main characters have flashbacks to when they weren’t on The Island in character-centric episodes

  • Flashforwards
    BSG: Audience surprised when the show advances a year and a half in the season 2 finale
    Lost: Audience surprised when the show uses flashforwards instead of flashbacks in the season 3 finale

  • Traitors
    BSG: Baltar taken in and respected by the Cylons
    Lost: Locke taken in and respected by the Others

  • The “bad guys” have issues reproducing
    BSG: Cylon’s can’t reproduce on their own
    Lost: Others can’t reproduce on their own (babies conceived on The Island don’t come to term)

  • Joining forces
    BSG: The humans and Cylons eventually work together to find Earth
    Lost: The survivors and Others unite together against Whitmore’s freighter

  • Fixed-time loops
    BSG: The Cylons chase after the humans every 33 minutes
    Lost: Hurley’s numbers need to be entered in the computer every 108 minutes

  • Big to-do about opening a door
    BSG: Kara goes all the way back to Caprica to get the Arrow of Apollo for opening the Tomb of Athena
    Lost: The survivors go all the way across the island to get dynamite for opening the Hatch

  • A curse word is used that gets around the US censors
    BSG: Frak
    Lost: Sodding

  • Each episode starts out with a “Previously on [showname]” recap

  • Both have summaries made by the same production company (see http://www.methodder.tv/programming/)

Don’t forget that many of the Others are clearly Cylons. Mikhail dies and then comes back, Alpert doesn’t age, and many Others have shown super human strength.

Plus the pregnancy thing.

I hate to state the obvious, but both include people who are more or less…lost.
both season premieres start within a week! woo hoo!

What is the Lost thing on tonight? Is it just a review?

I think there’s a clip/ re-cap show next week before the premiere.
I didn’t here about anything tonight.
