I think Skipper is right. When they found Kobol, the Cylons were right on their heels. It is habitable, but the Cavil-cade knows where it is. I’m sure they have it under surveillance. Supposedly, the Cylons do not know the location of earth, which makes it a safe haven.
Cylons, the whole “price in blood” thing for setting foot there, and the only animals still alive were birds.

Without Cylon tech, it’s unlikely the ships would make it back to Kobol in the first place (consider the Galactica’s cracks). In any case, there’s probably not enough food or fuel to make it there. Pragmatically, it’s a moot point.
A lot of us seem to like to ignore that, but Zeus made it pretty clear. Maybe most people don’t believe that literally. No matter what, though, it’s hard to argue a significant price in blood hasn’t been paid since the brief time they were there last. Why risk going back?
