Longest Rant Ever

I think it was also kind of a point of the show, that the Scrolls of Pythia did not turn out to be that correct after all. Like Erf they were a red herring. Basically the resulting form the hubris of humans who try to pigeon-hole the “Gods” into a narrow understanding defined by scripture…

If you did not like this series ending. If you think the entire fourth season is on the same level as “the woman King”. I guess the actual problem is YOU DID NOT GET IT. EVER!
I am happy that every little thing was not spoon feed to me. I am happy the writers (RDM) treated me as Intelligent. just like they have the entire way down the line. If they started treating me the way the Network execs always want to treat the audience I would have been disappointed.
instead, I watched and enjoyed the end of this opera. I am very happy with the way everything turned out and place this finale in the top 5 series enders of all time. maybe the top three. MASH was the best, and this might be Second. Be Happy you were there. Nobody ever again will get to experience BSG the way we did.
I am sad it’s over, but I am happy I was there!

Be Happy for FRAKS sake!

here endeth the lesson.

Well, at the very least it was an implicit question - or a topic of expected curiosity. But look, what drives/drove my interest in the issue is how The Lords and the whole Kobol angle fit into the repeating Cycle. No Cycle and I could care less if The Lords of Kobol were a mid 1960’s British rock group.

OT - I think we did get this answer. IF (i know its a big IF) they did not free the centurions, and if they did build a city and kept the Tech. Apollo, Hera, Athena etc would have been ‘gods’ or the Lords of Earth… cycle continues.
what say you?

That’s what I think - and have written so elsewhere - just today - on my “Who Were The Lords Of Kobol” thread. It’s pretty subtle, but the more I think about it, the more I conclude that this is not just speculation or that something RDM gave us inadvertently. I think we know who (or what) they were. Lee’s (questionable) decision may not have broken the Cycle, but it certainly “slowed” it down.

The more peripheral issues of the jealous god, the god whose name must not be spoken (and were they the same), the fact that the 5 priests of the 13th worshipped him/her, why the 12 left Kobol, etc. - well maybe for another day.

Here’s another one though, were the FF and the 5 priests of the 13th somehow one and the same? My bet is that, when the writers came up with the 5 priests, they thought they would be tied into the FF, but couldn’t figure out how to pull it off and/or decided that it didn’t really matter in the larger scheme of the story.

During their creative process, the writers set up soooo many issues (most of them very cool) that there was no way to tie them all up at the end.

I think those were some of the things that RDM was trying to work out when he decided “it the Character!”

It does leave room for “fanfiction” if your into that sort of thing.

Honestly, I’m not sure what you mean by that statement. But point of fact is, the first instances of both polytheism & monotheism do indeed come from Africa. We are simply more familiar with Greek/Roman & Judeo/Christian ideas of both.

The first instances of polytheism on a civilization level comes from Egypt. They also had tradings/wars/intermingling with the cultures in Ethiopia (the possible home area of the “Queen of Sheba”) So yes, Audra was indeed incorrect or unaware (I believe it probably just slipped her mind in the moment) that Africa did not have polytheistic cultures.

The earliest instance of monotheism also comes from Egypt & the idea’s & changes to the state religion, by Akhenaten & his Queen, Nefertiti. They raised the god of the sun disk, Aten above all others & attempted to abolish or at the very least extremely limit the cult of Amun-Re as well as the other gods.

There are many archaeologists & anthropologists who theorize that the stories of the Holy Family are based on the Isis, Osiris, Horus stories. They are strikingly similar to the bible stories.

Personally, I don’t think it was necessary to be rude to Audra in this case. ancient history is not her focus, English is. Also a discussion taking place after mindnight, people are not at their memory best. I think it’s cool that they at least attempted the discussion at all, which indeed IS relevant.

i realise it is not a rule in that sence, but it was one of the building blocks of the premise of the show, and i find it lazy writing to be constantly changing and stretching the premise in order to fill up airtime.

again i agree, but since we got some historical information of the time on Kobol, and Kobol was the planet were man lived alongside the Gods, surely someone must have been curious to ask what their deal was.

What is everyone’s deal with the Woman King? I fracking loved that episode. It had a great moral conflict at its core about medicine, and the clash of ideologies of different cultures. Science VS misticism. Tollerance Vs Intollerance. Plus Helo (my fave character) was immensely heroic in it.

also I dont get the whole deal about BSG being this ultra intelectual and ultra dark show. It isnt that dark :
-cancer patients dont look that good till the day they die
-obese people dont loose weight in three episodes,
-war stricken people on the run, short on rations don’t chill at the bar drinking playing the piano with God

also on BSG Bullet wounds are the easiest thing to recover from: i dare you to name one character that hasnt been at some point riddled with bullet holes.

its a great, great, great great show, but lets not be under the impression that it’s artistic integrity is fully in tact. Maybe it has more integrity than 99% of TV and especially SCi Fi but It is most definetly a people pleasing, advertiser-friendly piece of pop entertainment.

Apologies for any rudeness in this thread. Passionate outburst is now almost fully contained. Love the podcast, love the forum, and love the show (warts and all).

Thanks to all for taking the time to reply.

Well,

[ul]
[li]It’s tough to make Mary look that bad.
[/li][li]IRL we don’t have episodes. Which is fortunate, because I’d hate to wake up “One year later.” (Or even worse, have a “previously” snuck in when I wasn’t looking.)
[/li][li]I suspect you’d be surprised what people under stress will do.
[/li][/ul]
Also, I can’t think of a lot of recurring characters who’ve been shot. The Admiral, Helo… blanking on any others. (Cylons don’t really count.)

Gaeta’s Leg might disagree

Billy would disagree

The 6 (Natalie) who was shot by Sharon Agathon might disagree.

Crashdown would disagree

Pike after getting hit by weapons fire from a Cylon raider in the episode the Hub might disagree.

Colonel Jurgen Belzen Adml Cain’s XO would disagree

Gods, how could I forget Gaeta?

And good point on the ones who didn’t recover at all.

Don’t you all know, the Garden of Eden was in Jackson County, Missouri. :stuck_out_tongue:

Lee took one in the chest and survived. But then again he’s an Adama…

You guys have been too hard on Bald_as_Saul. He made some great points

I actually found this scene was kind of meaningful to me. Aside from the fact that they copped out and didn’t really tell us what Kara was or what an “angel” is, I felt a sadness and a looming loneliness.

All through season 4 they were tickling us with “what is Kara Thrace?” tickle tickle… “What am I?” tickle tickle…“what is Kara Thrace?” tickle tickle

And we get - that. Some things I don’t want to know what it is like the force in Star Wars. But this is different. You can create a million mysteries in a story, but what makes them interesting is seeing the connections and how the author works things out. How they work together with reasonable rules.

It was like a who done it where they don’t reveal who done it.

OMG Callis’s angel acting is horrendous. He’s great as Baltar, but as an angel he’s like Kirk in the latter Star Trek films. There’s a sort of actor just having fun with the character feel to it.

Yeah I want to know too.

Yeah that was just stupid. They’ll be regretting that decision their first night, hating it on the second and when they start dying from starvation, disease, malnutrition, child birth, etc they will know regret like never before.

Yes it’s just a story and the author is telling a specific story, but we’ve all grown to care about these characters and what happens to them.

I also didn’t like the way the characters separated and said goodbye like they were going to mall to get some new pants - which by the way they will never get again - new pants.

Yes it was good drama for Adama to fly off with Roslin and sit on the hill, but the old man is going to get pretty hungry by morning.

I liked much of the finale, but I didn’t think it did the series justice. It was very rushed.

its not about stress. its about a hoard of ppl on the run that is meant to be a) running out of supplies and b) under constant pressure. And yet they waist supplies to produce alcohol and snacks and seem to have plenty of time to get all glammed up before they go out for the evening. not exactly gritty realism.

so basically bullets are only dangerous for second tear characters. Kara was shot, Boomer was shot by Helo, Lee, Admiral Adama, Helo was striding along on his cruches within hours…dark stuff.

At last some support yey!! lol @ mall to get new pants

about callis, i dont know where you are from Scorpia, but being English I think has alot to do with disliking elements of his performance. His angel acting reminds me of the campy bad acting you get from annoying drama students, and dont get me started on his pathetic attempt at a northern accent when he reveals his humble background… That said his straightforward Gaius is 100% and he gets my respect for it.

Feed the Trolls? You know what. The guy who posted this thread to discuss his problems with the Finale, has the right to do so. If you don’t agree, then don’t post. Seeing as you did post on a thread like this, and that your post is anti what the originator wanted to discuss, makes you the “Troll”. If you feel different than the original poster, tell us why, don’t be a child and just throw out “Troll” I am tired of seeing good threads get shoot down because “Trolls like you” come in and automatically jump in with your silly Troll calling. Especially when the only Troll is “YOU”, I.E. (you are adding nothing meaningful to the thread and just wish to rile the threads author)

So if you disagree with this thread talk about it, write about it, but do us all a favor and and stop “Trolling”.

Do I disagree with the Threads topic. Sort of but all I would wish to say has already been said.

Kara was in the hospital ward & out of commission for quite a while after she was shot. They even addressed some of her rehab from the injury. Adama had emergency surgery & was in a coma on a ventilator for quite a while. In fact part of his pain all this season is due to that original injury. Athena is a cylon & DIED. Yup, they were just wiped away with no consequences. I think on this one, you’re having selective memory.

Helo? Was perhaps a bit rushed to have him on crutches, however, one of the first things they want to happen with rehabbing an injury is the patient up & walking as soon as possible. So…I’m willing to let it go.

I think you’ll be suprised the legnths some people will go to for some booze. An actual piano bar might be a bit much, but folks will have their alchohol.

so basically bullets are only dangerous for second tear characters. Kara was shot, Boomer was shot by Helo, Lee, Admiral Adama, Helo was striding along on his cruches within hours…dark stuff.

I’m blanking on Kara and Lee, which might support your point.

As a Cylon, Boomer doesn’t count, except her failed suicide attempt. Even there she had a hole in her cheek (and possibly minus some teeth) until she was shot by Cally. Bill spent a season recovering from his wounds. Helo spent, well we’re not sure but some unknown amount of time recovering from his.

Fairly realistic.

It’s just that a cliff hanger with a main character lying in a pool of blood after being shot stopped being a cliff hanger after the 1st or 2nd time. I had no doubt they would survive.

someone help me out with this:
Athena gets shot on the steps of the museum by Helo right?
