If you want cute but possible unhealthy, possibly unethical, ridiculously over-engineered cats, take a look at the Ashera:
Ok - not only is this a HUGE cat (25+ pounds) but it runs $22,000 for the cheapest one? Haven’t these people ever heard of the Humane society? You can get a nice, domestic, loving cat for about $50.
But it is in this type of situation where the hairlessness is most useful…
Not really, it’s just as useful in broiling or grilling. Oh, and boiling; saves having to strain through a cheesecloth.
Now stop that guys. I typed bread and not breed. So stop cooking the little friends.
Thread drift due to typo.
There are so many cats and dogs who need a home. So go take in a fur ball from a rescue group or Humane Society. They are just as loving and a few thousand dollars cheeper. What a deal. Save the extra money for the pets food and medical bills.
For $22,000 (which is for the Standard version - the fancy one is over $50,000), I had better be able to afford a couple each of cats and dogs - MINIMUM!
I think the special deal with these cats is that they do not stimulate allergic responses…
I wonder. People are allergic to the dander, rather than the actual fur.
Friends of mine who have wicked allergies to dogs and cats are fine owning hairless dogs.
On the other hand, the dog’s names are Spot and Fleshy.
For reals! I will never get a purebred animal because I just don’t see any benefits and I can’t stand to think that my choice means that a beautiful loving kitty in a shelter will either be euthanized or go unadopted. It hurts me just to think about.
That company makes the hypo-allergenic cats and there is an Ashera version (I think it’s the $50K one). The less special, DSH-style hypo-allergenic cats have come down in price to about $10,000 I think, but that’s still more than allergy shots would cost.
I am allergic to cat dander and cat saliva. So even a hypo-allergenic cat (which has its dander genes altered to remove the irritation-causing things) would make me itchy.
Yeah, probably just better to go with one of these then…
I was uploading a few pics and forgot that I had some funny SW pics I meant to post here…
i lol’d at this one:
Ok, I admit $22,000 is completely ridiculous, but I am one of those people who love cats but are also violently allergic to them. I didn’t use to be allergic, I lived with cats before without any problem. Then one day, I woke up with allergic reactions, just like that.
If there’s a proven hypoallergenic cat on sale out there I’ll actually go check it out. But I haven’t heard of any. The only ones I’ve even heard of were hairless ones, which are frankly frightening to me. If there’s a normal looking kittens that I’m not allergic to, I wouldn’t mind spending a bit of money on it.
This Ashera cat sounds like a scam. I just looked up the company Life Style Pets in Wikipedia, and it sounds like there’s a bit of controversy as to whether the company’s claims are false.
Note to self: cats are Starbuccaneer’s kryptonite.
Not that we’ll ever have to defend ourselves against her, but it’s good to know that we can if the need arises.
Hey- she might try to hypnotize us with those gorgeous eyes of hers!
