Life On Mars

I’m gonna suggest the BBC’s Life On Mars for a few of reasons:

  1. It’s a very good show, but it was seen by comparatively few Americans, so it would likely be new to a good number of GWC members.

  2. The 2 season series, which came to a definitive end, doesn’t have an overwhelming number of episodes.

  3. It’s being remade for American audiences. The American Life on Mars should air in the Fall. It might be fun (or more likely, terribly painful) to compare the two.

  4. Most importantly, Audra and Chuck seem to have become fans. The more emotionally and intellectually invested The Trinity is in whatever they fill the void with, the better for the podcast.

Man, I would really love to do this as I’m a huge, huge fan. I’m not sure the audience would put up with it, though I’m tempted to find out.

Regardless of whether we do this – which I would love to – everyone should run out there, obtain these, and check 'em out!

If you’re worried, do it as one podcast. Intermittent reinforcement, and all that.

I only saw one season. How can I see the second. I would put up with it if you will not do Charlie Jade.

Oh, that…
I was just checking around trying to figger out if the show was going to come out any time soon in the US, and I found this disappointing quote on the BBC America forum:
“I’m guessing this is one BBC series that will probably never have a proper Region 1 U.S. release due to music licensing issues (every one of the 16 episodes has several 1970s songs, and licensing all of them could be so expensive that producing a Region 1 set is not a good financial decision).”
Granted that was just speculation by a forum poster, but craaaaaaaap.

I did find this though:

Don’t know what LinkReel is or where it comes from, so I don’t know the ethical implications (if any), but it worked.

I would love to watch it, I haven’t seen it yet, I had heard it was good, I’m down.

A friend of mine just turned me on to this show not long ago and I’ve really enjoyed the episodes I’ve seen so far. It totally needs to be GWC-ed

While a comparison might be fun, I understand that the show runners are trashing the L.A. version and moving the setting to New York. The actors will change which may mean that Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen is out and the actual air dates may change.

Thank you so much! I still find it a great show even though the actor messed me up going from a good guy to the Master in Doctor Who.

I’m all for a GWC look at LoM. I loved the series and I’m eagerly awaiting the American version of it. However you may have a problem with it being as popular to the general GWC audience because while you can find the series (E-Bay is your friend!) it is a bit pricey for only 16 episodes…but they are worth every single penny you spend on them.

I think this one would be a good idea because there’s a whole lot to talk about in this series. There’s a crap tonne of plot, lots of humour and a fantastic look at hot button topics. Racism, sexism, politics, sex drugs and rock & roll are all covered in this series - how could anyone resist? Plus the characters are deep and likeable and constantly evolving into something new.

And if that doesn’t do it for you the Star Wars references are worth a grin and a pat on the back to the writers!
