I love Elton John, and Rocket Man, but Taupin’s lyrics are terrible. Bowie’s Life on Mars lyrics are so much better and far more appropriate for the series.
Plus! John Simm aka ‘The Master’ Not sure how you can go wrong there.
I voted "Life on Mars US + “Rocket Man”.
I’ve seen Life on Mars US all the way through, and really loved it.
And I’ve only just started watching LoM UK (two episodes in).
I’m already feeling something missting because it’s hard to be shocked by 1970s England since I don’t have the same visercel sense of what 1970s England was like compared to 70s United States.
Life on Mars UK seems awesome, but it’s too new to be to be in love with it yet.
It’s weird too cuz (unlike most people) I say the US verson first, so my brain is automatcially prejudiced into thinking that the U.S. version is the “real” version.
Also, the actor playing Sam Tyler in the U.K. version is the same guy who some memerably played Doctor Who’s nemesis “The Master” in the last season of Doctor Who.
So I’ve got those two weights hanging around my head, distorting my perception of Like of Mars U.K.
I’ll report back as I’ve watched more.
