EDIT: I owe you a beer, Daedalus
Oh! That’s why all the new parents are sick all the time.
Craaap. Sucks to be Nicky.
It’s an upper-respiratory thing. A juiced-up cold, if you will, that babies get. It’s not that great for a premie that had minor lung development issues at birth.
On the up side, both girls are better today and should be home in a few more!
My thoughts are prayers are for your nieces! I wish them a fast recovery!
Very glad to hear it!!!
That’s great news, Auntie Splat. I hope they continue to improve.
Good news!
Someone’s DEFINITELY trying to make me quit:
After another job rejection and a stomach flu that kept me out of commission for a couple of days (as chronicled on this board) I awoke today with a sore throat and a very uncomfortable cough (which have thankfully calmed down a bit after having breakfast and drinking some fluids). Ugh!
I also read this morning that the Washington Post is discontinuing the Sunday Book World supplement due to budgetary constraints.
Sadly, that does appear to be one of the areas where newspapers are cutting back first (if they haven’t already), which kind of sucks.
So, today, I woke up and I could hardly cross the street with all the snow in tne middle between me and the street. Then, I get stuck in the bathrooms tall, good news was, someone stronger than me got me out (yay her!). And, apparently that line about any guy worth dating is is taken or.gay is true. Oh well
I’m sorry Emily, but your dating life is now even more complicated now that your an OG.
Any guy you choose to date must first be approved by the OG Dating Council of Twelve.
We ask that submit photos and descriptions of the potential datee. And if we find him acceptable, we will bring him before us for an interview. Pending majority approval, you will be allowed to date said dude for a period of 1 month. At the end of that month, he may reapply for a renewal of dating privileges.
Oh, and dating Friday nights (BSG night) is prohibited unless the date includes watching BSG.
^ Hehe. Good to know. So what is the policy for a mere alpaca? Not that I anticipate being asked out any time soon, but stranger things have happened.
Sorry about your day, Emily, but it’s almost the weekend. And the Hydra Cooler podcast sounded great!
Man, I hate job-hunting. I haven’t got a single unemployment check, either. I filed before Christmas and I’m not sure when I should start to worry.
Check back. You should have had the first one w/in a week or two.
Speaking of OG regulation for Friday nights: I need to file my permission forms requesting deferment for Friday, February 13 as I have a concert to conduct that evening. I have the complete forms filled out in triplicate but need to have them stamped 15 more times before they’re ready.

I hear that. Like Pike said, you should look into it. The first check should’ve arrived within a couple of weeks. That said, getting a hold of ANYONE at the department of labor (my experience is with New York’s, but I assume all beuraucracies are the same, this being the U.S. of A and all) is a nightmarish experience of Kafka-esque, nay, Sartrean proportions.
Dig out the paperwork.
That job I’m losing that I mentioned a while back well it got more interesting. Since June we’ve been getting notices of increasing fines for something related to workman’s comp insurance. Boss kept telling me that it was taken care of and to ignore it. Today I got a notice in the mail that the boss/business has a restraint notice placed on them by the state. Oh yeah, it is going down in flames soon.
Oh and I got my car stuck on a snowbank because I’m stupid but luckily my husband came and rescued me.
Goodluck to everyone in the snow and with job prospects. My day sucked because it was over 45 degrees celcius today. My flat is running at over 35 and no air con. The hottest week since 1908
Ugh! I’m mentally sending you cool thoughts right now!~~ Want me to mail you some snow?
Thanks! That would be great. For now frequent cold showers, no pants, and a fan will have to do
Make Armando Quit week continues! I emerged from the mid-week stomach virus to a lovely case of laringitis which I hope is only due to a chest cold and not another bout with bronchitis as I had in the fall. I cannot speak much above a whisper, and while I only gave a quiz in my 8:30 class, I have to actually teach at 10:30. That should be fun. And to add insult to injury, for whatever reason, I could not fall asleep AT ALL last night. I finally dozed off, on the couch, at around 4:15-4:30 a.m. this morning and was promptly woken up at 5:15 by my father-in-law rearranging dishes in the kitchen. Hurray for 45 minutes of sleep!
Oh, and when I come into work this morning my department head runs into me and lets me know that he’s not expecting to have any adjunct positions to fill next year (even though this seems like news to everyone ELSE in the department right now, especially considering we don’t even have next year’s enrollment yet).
Fun times!
