Damn. I’ve known a bunch of people with similar problems, and that does, indeed, suck.
Good luck with your surgery. (And the morphine )

I was on a mountain top tonight. 10 miles from civilaztion. Very remote, at night, and it was easily between -30 and -40. I had minimal winter clothing, no cell phone, and was running low on gas. Turning my truck around, Murphey’s Law struck. I went off the road. My truck was fine but I had to leave as I didn’t have enough gas, and it was very remote.
I have lived through and seen some amazing things. Frightening things. Horible things. But this was one of the most miserable things to ever happen to me. 10 frackin’ miles. -40 frackin’ degrees.
Literally, I nearly froze to death getting to a phone. The strangest part, the first house I came to saw the new BSG episode I missed while trying to stay alive, and barely doing so, tonight. The nicest people. They fed me, got me warm, and gave me hot coffee.
So that’s why life is the suck for me today. Honestly, I am still very shaken up right now. And that doesn’t happen every day. I just wanted to vent and thought some folks might appreciate hearing about my rescue from the jaws of frakin’ Hades by some BSG fans.
That does suck but also incredible and amazing. I am so glad to hear you are ok.
Glad to hear you’re okay. Stay inside and stay warm.
I’ve gotten stuck in the back country in the north a few times, once in a similar situation. really put my life perspective. said more than a few prayers that time. Mother nature can really suck sometimes.
but wow just happy you made it out okay
Lucky, I’m so glad you’re ok! That sort of thing is one of my greatest fears, and I’m happy you found some nice folks who helped you. Good to know there are still a few of them around.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
So I was watching my favorite scifi show last night and the end game turned out to be the world of Fallout 3 and then one of my favorite characters offed herself before my eyes. Needless to say, it was a bad night.
Frak, brother. My 5-minute walk from the parking lot to work in zero-degree weather really kicked me yesterday. I can’t begin to imagine what that walk was like for you. Great story about the salvation, I hope the after-effects are minimal.
If there is a hell, it is cold.
Holy crap, Lucky! That sounds downright harrowing and scary as hell. I’m so glad you’re okay.
Lucky, very, very glad to hear you’re OK! What a story! Spend a few hours in a warm tub, my friend!
I had to buy books last weekend, plus more required supplies this week. Total books and supplies for this semester: $900!
To make things worse, I lost my phone. My cell phone is my only means of communication while I’m at school. I’m pretty sure it was sitting on my lunch tray at the union and got dumped along with my food. I had to email my mom to let her know what had happened. The only good thing was that she couldn’t yell over email, and had no other means of yelling at me. I had an ATT Tilt, which I also used as a camera and mp3 player. No music for a week, and I lost a bunch of pics and vids from my trip to Baltimore last semester.
All of this adds up to me having no money for the Dallas meet-up.
The GWC commune would have the most excellently maintained network in all the land. I can build us trebuchets to keep out the non-GWCers who will invade because they envy our way of life
Wow, Lucky. The Lords of Kobol were with you (and maybe a real one, too). So glad to hear you’re all right.
And I could use my horticultural expertise to plant spiky and/or poisonous plants on the border to discourage people climbing in
I can shoot things. Like with guns.
I nominate Default Prophet as the commander in chief of the GWC commune militia. Get us a CAP going, DP!
I bake really good bread. And cupcakes.
craaap lucky. i heard about it on Emilyfromohio from topgun. glad your ok!
I’ve been watching the kids and/or working all weekend. I’ve been glancing at the boards, but I haven’t been able to really settle in, consume all the conversation about the new BSG episode, and think it through. I even fell asleep before I could watch the ep a second time (Friday and Saturday). It feels like I’m home missing the dance. Or writing a term paper while everybody else is at the biggest party ever.
At least I get to listen to the podcast later – as opposed to showing up late and hearing, “Oh, dude, Ron Moore was here! You totally missed it.”
Thanks for wishing me well, everyone.
The worse part actually came the next day. The road was closed off, and at the higher elevations, it was storming. My brother came to help me try to get the truck out, but we had to pull a sled in with about 40-60 pounds of equipment. Otherwise, the snow at that high of an elevation was only going to get worse, and who knows when I would have gotten it out. It took us all day dragging the sled and when I got there, some snowmobiler urinated on my driver side door, and wrote some pretty vulgar stuff on my truck. Thanks dude. BUT! We got the truck out! However, I think I am coming down with a pretty bad sore throat now. It could have been a lot worse though. And I finally saw the new BSG episode (thank the gods for hulu!).
