I figured it was something like that, given your handle.
It’s fine, even us geeks suffer “techno rage” now and then.
It’s my birthday and I’m working around 6 hours today. That count?
At least you’re working. My poor brother-in-law’s been out of work since June. He’s just sitting in our basement, moping, waiting for interviews. You’d think trained chefs would be in demand.
Which is not to dump on you, especially on your birthday. I hope the work went quickly and that you still got a chance to be silly and have some cake.
(Yeah, I’m not posting this on the birthday thread. Suck it, fascists!)
I’m so sorry. My cats are immortal, so I will not ever have to say goodbye to them, but I went through that when I was a teenager. It sucks. Look through your pix and think about what a good puppy she was. And cuddle his little bro.
Sorry bro
Also I’m like a month older than you. weird.
So I was driving home today with my 8 year old when she tells me she needs to go to the bathroom. Being a long way from home I pull over at a 7-11 which is so busy that there is not a single spot in the lot. So I did the sensible thing and parallel parked along the dumpsters as far from any adjacent spots as possible so I wouldn’t block anybody. As it was, a lady had just pulled into the handicapped spot directly in front of the dumpsters, but, I noticed, she had plenty of room to get out and my daughter’s bladder was at stake. So, we got out.
As I’m paying for a soda on the way out, I notice said lady catching my eye through the shop window and gesturing and yelling angrily at me. I turn to the clerk and say," huh, she’s parked illegally in a handicapped spot, has plenty of room and still has the gall to yell at me." Well, whatever. Some people are high strung and don’t know how to drive out of tight spots, right?
So, as she’s turning away and I’m walking out the door I notice a big, white scratch where another car had hit it. A scratch that was not there when I got to the shop. My mind obviously thinks, this lady hit my car. So, as she’s waiting to leave the lot and merge into traffic (which was heavy at the time, hence her wait), I went and knocked on her windshield. When she proceeded to just continue to scream and gesture to my own gesturing and attempts at getting her to notice that, “hey, you hit my car” I knocked again but she starts driving off.
So I get her license number, call the cops and wait for half an hour for an officer to arrive. When he does, I describe the situation. I describe the car and he asks me to describe the lady. He then radioes in to HQ and confirms that the lady is at the station trying to report the “guy who banged on her windshield.” The officer asks me, “did you bang on her windshield?” to which I reply, “well, I KNOCKED on her windshield. When she ignored me I knocked a little harder, but only because I wanted her to get out and give me her insurance information.” He takes my license and registration and I’m thinking, “great, she’s filing a complaint about me trying to assault her and they’re going to arrest me or something.” I call the Mrs. to come get my daughter and pick up Elena from daycare because there was no way I was making it. Thankfully, the officer just took an accident report and when I said, “I want to be clear that I did not try to harass that lady I just wanted her to do the right thing” he said, “don’t worry, we know what happened. You’re good.”
So I call my insurance, file a claim, then call HER insurance and file a claim. When they call her for her side of the story, of course, she denies any of this happened and I’m now going to have to wait for a higher up at her insurance company to call me on Monday and see where this goes.
I’ve owned this car for two weeks TOMORROW. At least the damage is just cosmetic and not all that noticeable, but I sure as hell don’t want to pay for the repairs.
Frakking people!
I was attacked on the street today, middle of town, broad daylight some little schmuck runs up to me, punches me in the face and tries to take my purse.
Didn’t get it though, didn’t get away either. Just home from emergency dentist where the police took my statement while the tooth that shattered during the event got pulled.
My statement will need checking for dragons.
Little fcker got picked up on CCTV and is sitting in a cell right now drinking tea, and I’m scared to go outside, my face looks like I got stung by a billion bees and I’m downing painkillers like Smarties.
So not a good day all told
Sorry to hear that, Monkey. I got mugged a few years ago, and I know how disturbing it is.
BTW, is “checking for dragons” a Britishism?
Ah, crap! That sucks, TNM. But hey, you didn’t let the little fracker get your purse AND he’s in custody. Don’t let him terrorize you post-facto.
No, I was a little buzzed from the stuff the dentist gave me… it’s a bad attempt at humour
I’m just… woried I suppose, these nobs don’t travel around alone, and I’ll have to go to court and I’m being silly and paranoid
Armando- that really sucks about the car. I hope that the insurance covers it. You did do all the right things.
TNM- oh hon, I’m so sorry and I hope you’re feeling better physically by today. I’m really sorry that happened to you. I got attacked many years ago and I was able to break free. I’d never been so scared in my life (except in those awful parenting moments when you believe your child is lost).
Here’s hoping the week is better for everyone!
I’m sorry–that’s just awful. I’m glad you went through with the police report and everything. And don’t let the world’s frakkers and scum get you too scared–there are definitely short term trauma counselors who can help you work through the fear and feel safe.
Hope you feel better!
Oh man, sorry about your car, that stinks. Here’s hoping the accident report persuades them.
Oh man, that’s even worse.
Sorry to hear that. That can’t be good for you confidence in the world. Still, you can be confident in your ability to wrestle it to the ground.
Just got told by my boss/owner that he is going to have to let me go on Saturday, not too much of a suprise. Business has been terrible due to the economy and summers are even worse, but the real capper is that the road in front of the bakery has been torn up for over two months. Thanks Obama!
A real recipe for disaster. I hope things get better, he is a nice guy and I have enjoyed working for him these last couple of years. It would be nice to come back some day…
But now I have to look for a new job which royally sucks! Unemployment in AZ is 17% so even if I can find a job it will probably pay much less than I am used to, simply because they can get away with it. At least the summer is almost over which means the resorts and hotels will be looking to restaff after the summer drought… at least I hope they will be.
Sorry to hear that Omra. It’s not much better over here in the other Peoria. Best of luck in finding a new job.
Sorry to hear it, Omra. Coraggio!
I’m so sorry to hear that. Good luck on the job search.
