Sorry for your loss. I also went to my cousin’s grandmother’s funeral yesterday. I didn’t know her very well at all, and only went out of sense of duty to my cousin’s family. I found that I was moved by the service, because of how many people turned out and how much she was missed by everyone. It seems that she has touched a lot of people’s lives in her time. By any measure, it appears she has led a fantastically fulfilling life, before succumbing to a late stage cancer that went undiagnosed until way too late.

I can only hope that by the end of my life, I am loved by half as many people as she was. RIP.

I am profoundly sad because a friend of mine, who I’ve known via internet for 9+ years but only met once, finally lost her battle to glioblastoma (brain tumor) today. 5+ years ago she was given only months to live. She was a pre-med student and pregnant at the time. She had just lost one of two babies she was carrying a few weeks prior. Then she began having seizures and the brain tumor was diagnosed. Today, that baby she was carrying at the time is an adorable dark-haired little girl named Saylor. Many, many very horrible things happened on top of her fighting for her life these past five years. Things you would be incredulous to hear. In any case, she was a beautiful woman inside and out. She leaves behind five children, ages 5 through 15, I think. I have no idea what will happen to those children now.

It’s amazing how much we can grow to love people we haven’t actually, physically “met.” It’s a strange aspect of the age we live in, but not a bad one as it opens up so many more avenues for interaction than are available in the physical world, even if other avenues remain closed (or at least are harder to work towards opening, like through trips and meet-ups).

Wow, guys…thank you so much for the kind thoughts and words. I’ve known for a while my friend was going to die soon but it really hit me hard when it finally happened. Armando, you are right…the age we live in is so unique in that we can make real connections with people, real friendships, without ever meeting them. Her passing has made me really think hard about my own life. Actually a couple things have done that recently. I’m learning to be more positive (or at least to try) and to live much more in the moment (again, I’m trying).

Thank you to all of you who responded to my post. I just really needed to get it off my chest and I didn’t know where to post it. I appreciate the support. Coming back after a few days and seeing that really touched me.

My computer at work died.

I frakkin’ well know better, but I was working on a file saved to the desktop – as opposed to the archiving network server where I normally save my files. And this week’s crazy-busy, so I rushed out of work Monday without e-mailing myself a backup copy of the file. So much of Monday’s work is gone, and I lost most of today. Should be almost done by now; instead, I’ve almost begun.

Was gonna try to work thru late tonite, but I’m just punch-drunk at this point.

LOL. I have sooo BTDT and I sucks, especially trying not to gag while getting rid of the nasty, lingering smell. Glad it’s all taken care of now.
