Kirk or Picard?

I’ve just got to chime in that seeing your first love’s wedding photos on facebook is about the weirdest thing ever-- because I am waaaaaayyyyy too young for that.

I also voted for my third ST captain, Sisko (in order of discovery, Picard, Kirk, Sisko), but I definitely do hold a special reverence for Jean Luc.

Yeah, Sisko seemed more human than Picard in terms of his well-roundedness and his position. Picard was a genius and good with people but not-so-good with emotions, and he was a fantastic diplomat but didn’t really make the most of that, as he was zipping around putting out small fires and discovering hithertofore unknown two-dimensional sentient beings. Sisko was not as good with people, but he had a family, and he was also a diplomat- those kinds of contrasts and contradictions are what make him so compelling.

Always!

Are you talking about my honeymoon photo? The one where we’re dressed up in Starfleet uniforms? If so, I was 23 at the time. Never too young.

FT, at 24 I am still WAY too young for marriage- but chalk that up to immaturity. :stuck_out_tongue: Actually, when I was a wee-little-one my momma used to tell me that she got married way too young (22) and I was absolutely unable to grasp the concept. I was like, “Mom, you were not; 22 is totally old!” She reminded me of that somewhat recently and I was quite amused.

Finally, to keep this on track, who wouldn’t want this shirt:

My friend sent me the link- his targeted facebook ads decided that he was the ideal consumer of such nerdy apparel.

I waited until 30 to get married. At the time, I’m like “I’m finally grown-up enough!”. Now, pushing 40, I’m thinking “Frak, if we have kids now, I’m going to be RETIRED before they graduate high school and move out!”. Of course, having a husband is kinda like having a kid…

Hey, my aunt and uncle just adopted their (first) baby and they are somewhere between 42-45. Another aunt had her kiddo at 40. My mom started at 26, so I think there’s advantages to both approaches. If you’re older the kids help keep you young- and if you’re younger you have like 20 blissful years of fewer responsibilities after college and before retirement.

Never too old… my mom just found the love of her life at age 56, so anything can happen!

As for the best captain: Picard. I’m sure I’m biased because I grew up watching NextGen and loving every second of it. Kirk gets props for being the original and setting the standard, but Picard is just too composed and sophisticated not to win in a Captain’s race. Plus, I like the legitimate-ness that Picard brought to Star Trek by being an acclaimed Shakespearean actor in the world of Sci-Fi. In a nutshell, he kicks butt, doesn’t mind getting down and dirty and can still hook up with random Earth chicks half his age admidst a Borg attack (see First Contact).

Is there a Boxer Shorts version? 'Cause I’d totally buy that.

For boxers I would go with “Engage”

I did think of that, but “Make it so” just works better, somehow.
