I used to work in a newsroom, so I was sure I’d heard it all, but I’ve learned more than my share of filthy things from the SModcast. Cracks me up all the same.
This might be an arc to keep Barb away from?
(Someday somebody’s got to post that in the FAQ so I can hear the whole story. lol)
Smodcast is a lot of fun. It’s one of the 'casts that automatically ends up in my phone, and though I’m not a regular listener, every now and then I really laugh my ass off with it. The description above (Kevin and Mos shooting the bull) is really accurate.
nah, just put a disclaimer that she shouldn’t listen to it while driving her school bus. for the record, Barb (aka bkitty) has as much a potty mouth as anyone, under the correct circumstances ;). after three hours of Kevin Smith panels at Comic-Con, we met up with GWCers Jim and Brendan, the latter of whom thot he should call in to the 'cast to tell the Trinity not to bother to “sorrybarb” anymore.
Have you ever scene the Fraking Short Version of Jay and Silent Bob Strike back? Beware, heavy use of the F word.
Being on this side of the mic protects the innocent. That may make a nice weekly segment. Whom dealt it this week?
I am so with you- I would strike Dogma for this. Clerks, Chasing Amy, and J&SB would be my picks.
Chuck, that is awesome. I actually also have a similar problem related to Chasing Amy: I’m fond of explaining certain things using the hand motions that Joey Lauren Adams uses to explain the mechanics of her love life to Ben Affleck. It usually makes people’s eyes bug out, which is 90% of the fun.
It’s interesting you’d omit Dogma. On one hand Dogma is a great flick – lots of fun. Alanis as God? That’s just the bomb. Really.
But your comment got me thinking: wouldn’t the “core Askew” group be Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy? No matter how people are affected by the later movies, it’s hard to deny those as the core. J&SB could tack on those as optional, I think – not because it’s anything but awesome, but just because it has the later “high budget” feel.
And that’s one of the things that makes Kevin Smith (and you, it seems) so refreshing: it’s great to see someone being frank and direct about subject matter that often ends up hidden under confusing innuendo.
I think most of us are agreed that Clerks and Dogma are at the top of the list. I suggested J&SB because it is sooo funny in the same way Dogma is. Chuck makes a great point in that without the core three you really miss a lot in the later movies, especially J&SB. It is constantly referring to those previous movies every couple minutes. Maybe we can have a View Askew History Month?
Also, can someone support me in my love for Jersey Girl? I’m not saying we need a podcast, just a couple shout outs would be nice.
yeah, i just recently learned what a blumpkin is, thanks to SModcast.
Chuck, have you listened to the SModcast where Kev and Mos discuss the Matrix? it’s super-relevant to the current arc youse guys are on. plus, they touch on a question i’ve been puzzling over myself - namely, how does the Matrix deal with pregnancy and childbirth?
also, are people leaving out Clerks 2? because i would argue that it should be included over Dogma or J&SBSB, because it is much more similar to the original 3 in tone, not to mention it’s one of Kevin Smith’s best movies, and one of the best i’ve seen in recent memory.
Minus Jersey Girl all of Smith’s movies take place in the View Askew verse. There’s even the short lived Clerks cartoon. But I agree that the first three are the heart of the films. Personally I look at the movies like the Star Wars sage. In the context of re-watching. I start with Clerks and end with Clerks 2. Sometimes I’ll throw the cartoon series into the mix depending on my mood. So you have the Independent Trilogy then Dogma,J&B, and Clerks 2 are what I like to call the Mooby Trilogy.
Thought I should bring this one suggestion back up. Doing my own re-watch of the New Jersey Trilogy and moving on to the Mooby’s Trilogy while at work. It would be great to hear Chuck, Sean & Audra’s take on these flicks. I do agree with having a “blue” cast as an alternative to the clean cast. Just my two cents.
