"Journey's End" (Spoilers)
Oh man. how RTD of it, to explain half hazardly all the sciency whimy stuff.

-the doctor’s regeneration? pshaw. that explanation was terrible. yeah, the hand, blah blah blah. still didn’t explain why the doctor likes this particular version of himself anymore than his older copies, or why the second doctor that grew out of the hand also looks like david tennant. “oh, i like the way i look, why would i want to change that?” that didn’t make any sense at all. i mean, are people (on the show) really all that shallow to see a different face to essentially the same person? mind you, i love david tennant, so i’m glad as a viewer to see him remain on the show, but for the characters on the show? i’ve always thought it was dumb that people get so emotional over the regeneration bit, when all it takes is a little less SHALLOW-ness. Geez, he’s still the same guy. anyhoo.

-DONNA. man, WHAT? she got such the short end of the stick. and i was hoping for all sorts of cool adventures with Doctor Donna afterwards. What was the point of all the others coming back (though yeah, it was pretty nice to see sarah janes and torchwood all converging back on DW)? They basically didn’t do anything. and the whole hoopla surrounding the appearance of Rose? Rose could have been sipping marguaritas in the other dimension all this time, and nothing would be different. Well, except that Rose (who i loved) basically stole Donna’s finest hour and exit from the show. CT needed WAY more screentime man. And if RTD didn’t write that weasel way of writing Donna out the series, Doctor Donna could have been a GREAT guest actor from time to time in the series to come. A female timelord? We’ve been needing one for YEARS, man. and fuck, poor donna. HATE!

-and again, the science behind how Rose got back was also WEAK! it made no sense, and served no frakkin’ purpose. WTF??

 • the second Doctor. yes, i know because he’s a timelord who’s part human as supposed to Donna, who’s human but part timelord, that makes him ‘survive’ better than Donna, but that is a flippin’ weak explanation. if Donna couldn’t cope, neither should the second doctor. what is it with doctor who that wouldn’t allow an AWESOME female doctor?? (which Donna could have been, LOADS!)

 • and somewhere in my mind, I think of Rose with the second Doctor, who’s part Donna (as with his diction and probably other mannerisms. wouldn’t that make him perhaps a bit of a bisexual like Jack should the Donna gene kick in at times?)

 • though i do have to give credit to RTD for making a more or less exciting episode, THOUGH LOADS of HOLES and ANNOYING writeups (he’s a total doctor/rose shipper, isn’t he? giving all that screen time to something we’ve seen already (and better) the whole good bye scene). hm. i’m not sure to be satisfied or completely pissed. ARGH!
Yeah after the EXCELLENT set up. It really didn’t come together in the end as nicely as I expected. It was infested with a lot "But if… why not"s. Still sweetly pleasing and cheer-inducing-ly dramatic enough to make me enjoy watching… but almost collapsed un the weight of such annoyingly flimsy Spacy Whacey Timey Whimy… stuff:
-Why was Mickey able to stay but Jackie and Rose could not?
-Why wasn’t the Billie Piper kiss… more… satisfying? Maybe that would have been too shipper? hehe
-I still don’t follow what the 'extra regen energy was doing in the hand, and how it can rebuild the Doctor from a dead brainless piece and what could it possibly do to transform Donna? WTF
-Davros… mighty creator of the Daleks… was a PET? Explain.
-Rose, Jackie, Mickie and even the Doctor and the TARDIS sure can cross parallel worlds pretty easy for dimensions that are supposed to be locked away to not destroy space and time…
A pathetic send-off for
Donna.
And I’ll put money on
her dying within 2 months with big-mouthed mom and granddad looking out for her. Brain explosion. Dead. She
didn’t deserve to go out like that. Not after
such a great performance these last few episodes.
I really loved the scenes where The Doctor
, er Doctors and Donna do their imitations of each other mannerisms and speaking styles.
Totally made the show for me.

All in all, I guess it suffered from it’s own hype. The bar was set way high. While it fell short. It was really enjoyable. Aside from the always overcooked music; That guy really needs to learn some musical restraint.

OH yesss! HA!!

'sigh so much for the Doctor’s
hot daughter riding in with the cavalry.

But he’s not, really. He has a different personality every time. He’d have the same memories, but not the same reaction to those memories. And as for that scene, Donna was the only one who reacted like a crazy person, and that was mainly because no one told her what was going on.

I don’t think Jackie, at least, wanted to. Remember, she has something to go back to: Pete and the baby (who’s name I did not catch… Tony?) Rose would leave her mother for the Doctor, but now she doesn’t have to. And I think that it was a good way to give Rose the Doctor she needed.

I thought it was because of what the Daleks were doing that made the stars go out that weakened the barrier between dimensions. Doesn’t Donna say that the walls are getting stronger again between worlds because the reality bomb never went off?
I know, that was really funny!

'sigh so much for the Doctor’s
hot daughter riding in with the cavalry.

Yeah, I kept wondering if/when she was gonna show up!
Oh, and I guess we now know that
Owen (the medic) and Tosh (the computer expert) are being replaced by Martha (the medic) and Mickey (the computer expert) at Torchwood, huh? Hmm. I like both Martha and Mickey’s characters, but I will miss Owen’s pretty face. I always wondered if Owen was really dead. Guess so.
I thought:
Mickey staying in our world would be forbidden and endanger the barrier between worlds or whatever excuse they use for why Rose can never stay. But Mickey can stay of course. He’s harmless.
I have to say that I don’t think of Doctor Who as hard sci-fi. I think of it more like relationship sci-fi. I think it is more about the relationships between the Doctor and the rest of the cast. In that I say they delivered.
I have never been to fond of Donna but these last three episodes have made me like her more. I won’t really miss her, unless Micky starts showing up more. I really don’t like him.

I have to admit that there were times I cried in all three.

The sci-fi thing I have the biggest problem with is the whole jumping between worlds thing. Haven’t they said a dozen times now that it is impossible but they still find a way. They solve the problem, say that something is impossible and latter on they do it all over again. Even if a show does something different than known science that isn’t as bad as setting rules for it on your show and then breaking them. That’s a big NO,NO.

They never said Rose can’t stay here. Just that she couldn’t travel between dimensions because the breech had been sealed. Remember in “Doomsday”? Mickey had decided to stay with his Gran, Jackie had decided to stay with Pete. Rose was going to stay with the Doctor. But she accidentally got sucked into the void and Pete saved her trapping her in the parallel world. I think at the end of “Journey’s End” when he told her she had to go back to the parallel world, he wasn’t saying “otherwise we’ll tear a rift in space/time” but more along the lines of “it’s the right thing to do.” She has her Doctor now, one who loves her and will grow old with her, why does it matter which world she’s in? Doesn’t it actually make more sense for her to stay with Jackie and Pete, her family?
Me too. Sobbed like a baby.

I think they kind of explained it by saying what the Dalek’s had done to create the reality bomb had weakened the walls between worlds. Remember, the Doctor does tell Rose (in “Rise of the Cybermen”) that the Time Lords used to control travel between dimensions, to make it easier and safer.
And a related comment re: the trailer for the Christmas Special:
I bet y’all a quarter that that’s how the Cybermen get back. Because Davros and the Daleks weakened the walls between worlds.
I agree with you it’s much more about relationships (especially the new series) than hard sci-fi. My concern about
mickey staying
I thought was also another example of the show breaking it’s own rules. But looking back I see that being in a
parallel is not the problem… it’s the traveling between dimensions. So yeah, it’s not a problem if Mickey stays already coming here. But yes if it’s ok to break the rules and send someone back, then should be able to go back and forth at will… the issue seems that people arne’t closing the door behind them as it were :stuck_out_tongue: Apparently it is safe to cross over in the tardis. SO maybe another issue is that the Doctor just doesn’t want to hehe. Rose cramps his space/time-travelling playboy lifestyle!
DrWho PSA: Be polite and close the door behind you
you’re right! i didn’t even think about that. that makes the doctor’s urgency to get rose to go back to the alternate universe with the 10.5 doctor much stranger, if technically, the three of them could hang together and travel in the tardis all together for some fun travelling and threesomes.

i mean, if it comes down to it, rose already made the decision last time to leave her family behind to be with the doctor, even though it didn’t go the way she wanted it to.so, she would have done it this time too. wait. was this why they needed to construct this second doctor thing (because, really, he wasn’t all that necessary in the finale. the hand and doctordonna was, but 10.5 doctor/human there? was completely unnecessary), so the doctor would get rose what she wants (or, what RTD wants, something nice for rose)- a doctor who’s human - and get her back to the alternate universe? hm.

i miss donna already. i’ve come to terms with her arc in the show, it was after all a good arc (albeit a totally tragic and gut wrenching one). what i’m hoping for the season to come is catherine tate coming back in some capacity, and i don’t know if the finale left much room to finagle that.

i’m hoping that steven moffat can bring back donna in some sort of cool and awesome way in 2010.
2010! man. that’s way too long.

I remember reading a not so old rumor about 2 companions after Catherine Tate… whatever happened to that?

So the 11th doctor…thats going to be the person that appeared in thi right?

You all in the usa finally get to see Journey’s End. Yay! I am Katherine part of the season finale was filmed near my home in Cardiff and I met DT and CT and they are very sweet people. Glad you enjoyed it!

I saw John Barrowman in a local store the other day when me and my friends went shopping, he is very funny and very kind!

Kat from Cardiff, Wales.

David Tennant is scheduled for at least the next two epsiodes the next Christmas Special later this year Attack of (or Revenge of) (or Something of) the Cybermen. The nhe is supposed to do at least one more show. After that who knows maybe we will be getting a new Doctor. Maybe in 2010.

So I finally saw this. Wow.

Cheering was done. Tears were shed.

But I feel like all the lose ends are tied up! I don’t know where this is going now…

Mostly tieing up loose ends for the new producer and his team to take over. 4 specials in 2009 and then new doctor, new production team.
