James Marsters as Anakin Skywalker?

Found this article that said George Lucas considered him for the part but thought him to old. Which admittedly was true but just think of how Starwars might have changed.

Makes sense from way back i remember that G.L. daughters were big Whedon fans and he and his family toured the set of Buffy.

oh well but the article says he is going to voice a character on the clone wars. and who knows maybe a role in upcoming series. that end part was all me not the article. just think it would be cool to see him as a bounty hunter or a Sith kicking butt. or a bounty hunting Sith kicking butt.

Holy Crap, Marsters would have been awesome as Anakin. He has the advantage of being able to make his facial muscles move, to deliver a line with some type of emotion, and he doesn’t speak in a monotone! No wonder Lucas didn’t want him.

I’m not convinced that Hayden Christensen’s less than stellar acting was entirely responsible for poor quality of the movies. Although Marsters could only have improved them.

Agreed sir.

I’m pretty sure that GL could have smothered Marsters’ performance as well.

Intriguing prospect, but Marsters will always be Spike to me. Don’t get me wrong: I’d love to see him in another Great Big Role.

What most bothers me about whatshisface as young Anakin is that, despite his admirable bulking up for the role, Darth Vader is still twice as big as Anakin Skywalker.

One of the podcasts I listen to (Wired’s GeekDad) has a sometimes-host who’s a double amputee (due to some kind of congenital leg defect.) He was joking (I think) one day about putting spacers into his prosthetics to make sure he was always taller than his kids.

I think Marsters…okay I don’t’ know if he’d be better than Haydon, but comparing Haydon to the things I’ve seen, in my humble opinion, Marsters is the stronger actor, and would have been a great Anakin

I would have gone for Neil Patric Harris too

he did do a voice in the Clone Wars. The episode is called Cloak of Deception. He plays a Republic Senate Guard (which are precursors to the Imperial Guard, ie the guys in the red outfits that escort the Emperor around). It is actually one of my favorite episodes. Lots of great action and some awesome lightsaber battles. Marsters was great in the role. ya’ll should check it out its on Starwars.com or you can get it at Itunes

I’m so behind on clone wars I might just wait for dvd

agreed. Hayden and even Jake Lloyd (i think that was the young anakin’s name) were HORRIBLE casting choices. It’s really too bad they hadn’t chosen someone better. lets hope the series is better.

The poor quality of the prequels was not the fault of any actor, we all know that I think, Lucas was not that great of a screenwriter or director to begin with, or else there would not have been different directors and screenwriters for Eps. V and VI (some of the best dialogue from those films was ad-libbed and it infuriated him!).

I think James Marsters would have been a fantastic Anakin, but I will actually defend Lucas’s choice to cast unknowns because that cuts out expectations. As someone already said, he’ll always be Spike to some, many actually, and so that would have more than likely skewed viewers’ ability to believe Anakin’s sincerity prior to his fall. Hayden might have been sappy, but you believed him when he cried, at least I did. The silliness of it all was all Lucas’s fault of course, while Anakin’s fall was a necessary part of his character development he didn’t have to make it look so contrived, there’s no way to know that a stronger, or at the very least more established, actor could have saved the movie from Lucas’s poor screenwriting.
