Ive got a score to settle

My friend of over 15 years and I have been debating this crucial issue ever since we saw the re-releases of Star Wars in the 90s and began geeking out on the EU.

The issue is simple, who can become Jedi and who cannot (or, more precisely, who can use the force and who cannot)

Now, Ive already lost bets that I made awhile ago dealing with the Hutts (as there is a Hutt Jedi in the EU), but so far a lot of my bets are stagnant.

Is there anywhere I can get a full list of what species can or cannot? Ive found minor lists here and there, but never anything that answers all my questions.
And wookiepedia isnt much help either.

Youd think there would be a master list of who and who cannot be all forceifed, what with GL holding the leash of the EU.

So yeah, help?

well… this is as close as it comes in list form. My guess is no one who worked for Lucas ever made a list

As far as I understood it, every species in the Galaxy far far away could be force-sensitive. As with the Hutt example, even aliens, who aren’t influenced by The Force, some members of that species can become a Jedi.

Exceptions would be ones like the Yuuzhan Vong.

this is my take on it. Producing more force sensitive beings isn’t purely a genetic thing, it’s a society thing.

since the force flows through every thing, the only difference is whether or not an individual is aware or be able to wield it. there are species that were entirely force sensitive and the eccessive use of darkside effect their society, behaviors and the way they think that they eventually became entirely none force sensitive.

I don’t think Wookies can, but I got that info second hand.

Yes and no. There are three Wookie Jedi (Kirlocca, Lowbacca, and Tyvokka) but Lucas has apparently decreed that there are to be no more Wookie Jedi in the EU

Now that the Force has been explained as a bacterial infection (why, George, why?), could Force abilities be granted or improved by artificially increasing midichlorian counts?

I sure as hell hope NOT!!

Remembering back to the Jedi Academy book series, Palpatine has constructed some technology which could display the Force-Aura of a person.

Well Im talking about just naturally.
No manipulation with bacterial infections or insane plans of sith lords.

I’m no expert, but I would think that any living thing could be force sensitive and therefore become a Jedi. The exception would be the Yuuzhan Vong who have been “cut off” from the force, and the Ysalamiri, who create a bubble where The Force does not exist.

Also, there are the Vornskr who are non-sentient creatures that use The Force to hunt. I would imagine if they can use it, even to a minor degree, then anyone can use it.

you’d need Romo Lambkin to fight this for you…

I lack the guns, quaffed hair, political power, and cat hatred for Romo to do it pro bono
