IT and the god whose name cannot be spoken

Alright - I’ll try this again in its own thread.

The title speaks for itself. We have a “god” who doesn’t like to be called that and a god, worshipped by the 5 priests of the 13th Tribe, whose name cannot be spoken.

That’s no accident.

So the 13th Tribe may have been on its way to monotheism before the Cents got the rest of the way there. (In addition to those in the 12 Colonies that did likewise as per Caprica storyline.)

But here’s what I am wondering. There has been (a good deal of) speculation about whether the “jealous god” of the Lords of Kobol is one and the same as the god whose name cannot be spoken.

If the answer is yes, AND if the god whose name cannot be spoken and IT are the same, well then folks, RDM may have left us with a corporeal being that is calling some (or all) of the shots. And maybe not just one. After all, just what did happen to all those “gods”?

In any event, for those of us interested in the Kobol back story, the more I think about it the more I believe we shall get information in Caprica. Religion is clearly going to be a major theme in it, which lends itself to this.

Also, did RDM really tell us at the end of BSG that there is some sort of monotheistic greater power? I ask this, because if he has answered that question, that removes a lot of the dramatic tension from the monotheist vs. polytheist debate that appears to be inherent to Caprica.

In other words, I would not be surprised if RDM puts all of this back into play in the prequel.

I think RDM probably has his own idea on all these, but he much rather leave it to the fans to deceide for themselves. One can either take the literal words out of the show and say mystical beings are angels and god is like god in our understanding, which normally hasn’t worked out in undrstanding the show before the finale.

But if thing that god resolved everything in the finale really pains you, one can think up an explanation that works with their belief that makes sense.

I never thought Kara is an angel, just becuase Baltar said “there are angels among us”. I think that was referring to head six. I think Kara and Baltar both resurrected, and are merely influenced by the head characters, rather than IT actually blazing their paths for them.

In my thread of “post finale miniseries rewatch”, I think several of forumers came to a conclusion that it works best for us for “IT”, “head characters” to be reminants from even earlier cycles. The same can be said about the Lords of Kobol. And that Kara and Baltar’s resurrection and their ability to see head poeple or even project is a legacy from previous cycles, because the “human race” now was once another cycle’s Cylon.

And IT doesn’t like being called God probably because it really isn’t a god. It could be the computer incharge of resurrection from previous cycles. And it’s purpose is to prevent the cycle from completely ending.

RDM loves to create role reversal. I remember when people used to call Boomer the “good Boomer”, and Athena the “bad Boomer”. Then suddenly it was the other way around. So people called Athena the “Caprica Boomer” and Boomer the “Galactica Boomer”. Then Athena is on Galactica and Boomer is resurrected on Caprica… reversed the roles and people don’t know what to call them. So “human used to be cylons from another cycle” kind of plot seems like something right in his alley.

I can live with this interpretation of the finale much better, and coming up with this view is satisfying and won’t make me feel cheated by the show. And it will be interesting if this will be played out in Caprica.

You raise some good questions as always and I think the answers may all lend to the notion that it depends on your own point of view and if you want it to be that way then it is because everyone can now have their own interpretation out of the ambiguity.
i try to simplify things by viewing Kara as a “messiah-like” figure that everyone could see after her “resurrection.”
Is Kara an agent of this one who does not want God’s name? probably.
Are Six and Baltar head beings of light angel seraph harpies agents of this same “god”? Are they this "beings’ equal like the Gods of Mount Olympus bickering with each other and shaping man’s affairs to suit their wills.
. Are they all working together? Is their a heirarchy? who knows?
Why did Hera hold the key to mankind’s survival regarding her ability to present Kara with the notes?
How much of it all is this “being that doesn’t like to be called God”?
All interesting stuff that Mr. Moore has left us with.

I think hansioux and you have pretty much summed up the whole IT thing correctly (although, hansioux, who knows what IT not liking the name “god” means - in RDM’s universe it may mean IT prefers Shazzam). All of this is in play for the viewers to think about.

I do think we’ll get more background on Colonial religion in Caprica - the story line certainly points that way.

I think “IT” prefers to be called the Prophets… The two entity certainly have a very similar pattern.

IT prefers to be refered to by His proper name “Jimi Hendrix.”
