Internet Connection Speed

So,

I have a feeling that my bandwidth is being throttled but can’t find a good resource to test.

Two questions: What is a good app/site to use to test

and what is a good number to go for? I have slightly lost touch with what a good (not pro) upload/download rate should be.

Haven’t used them in a while, but http://www.dslreports.com/tools was a good one. It’ll compare your rates to others so you can see how you’re doing based on area etc.

speedtest.net. It’s by far the best. I use it all the time.

Thanks guys. I found the source of the problem: the Wife downgraded the service to the lowest rung to save a few bucks. The good news is that because of this it pushed me into some research and the discovery if I drop my DSL with ATT that maxes out at 6mbs for $35 a month I can get 15mbs for $30 from Cablevision.

I think this will resolve my issue.

nice. Make sure you speedtest it. I have cable and the connection speed does vary. I’m usually over 10mb; even hit over 17 a few times

Will do. As always, there seems to be a catch…$30 bucks for six months and then they leap to $45 a month. <deep sigh> They don’t ask for a contract, so the modem is in the mail. However, Come the new year if they won’t hold me at $30 I’ll be shipping it right back to them.

Having kids who download porn over their parents’ DSL will slow down said parents’ connection speed considerably. Trust me, I was that kid.

Do you mean there is Porn on the Internet?

I don’t believe it…

I COULD show you…

Channeling my inner Pike…

Well you will be passing through Philly…although my wife and your girl friend my feel left out…

…or would they be joining in?
