I almost screamed when I saw Janitor! My friends who saw it with me don’t watch Scrubs so they weren’t so impressed.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. I had a few problems with it but nothing to prevent me from watching again. I mean it isn’t Beer League or anything like that. The Sci-fi element of the flick was a surprise and I loved the 1950s McCarthey-era backdrop.
I am SOOOO with you there! That is the same reason that I loved the Rome series on HBO up until the end game ANtony Cleopatra bit. It was just so obviously WRONG & they DID their research! sigh
I had fun watching the movie but at the end I was sitting there saying how the hell did I end up in a hockey version of Close Encounters? I was seriously waiting for the music to start.
Indy 4 was good, but not great in my opinion. It is a popcorn flick, but Iron Man felt like a better movie than this. I love Indiana Jones movies, but I feel like the bar has been raised. I wanted to see new and improved Indiana, but there was no sense of new or improved.
Among the disappointments for me was the sword fight on the cars, which was not really all that original and the swinging with the monkeies thing was to korny even for Indiana Jones. The drops over the water falls should have thrown them all out of the vehicle and broken it on the first drop. There were way to many scenes where people with machine guns were at close range were unable to kills or wound people. The frig and the nuclear bomb test was another to over the top moment.
Again, I know it is Indiana Jones so physics and realism often get bent, but this time I think they bent into the shape of a bow and kick it out the door. The worst part is it was not innovative. One would think with two of the biggest names in the movie industry at the helm and a big budget, they could hire people to create original fight sequences and better dialogue.
The basic concept of the movie I thought was cool. I just find it sad that while a series like Batman which had gone off the corny wagon was rebuilt in a cool franchise again, Indy which was generally very cool fails to improve. For me, this is the second worst movie in the series. Lost Arc and Last Crusade were better films.
As hard on the film as I may sound, many films wish they were as good as this.
I noticed many film reviewers complaining that Spielberg seems to be stuck on the idea of aliens because he keeps shoving them into many movies. I would tend to agree after seeing this one.
I took in a second viewing today, and I will say that I enjoyed it more this time. I think that the anticipation of a new Indy after 20 years was just too much to handle, and probably nothing that I could have seen on the screen was going to completely satisfy. Being able to relax this time around and just try to enjoy it made it better. In particular I got into the Indy-Marion dynamic, (what there was of it), more.
I could completely do without the refrig gag as well as the Shia Tarzan impression…both really silly and just unbelievable, even for a movie.
Great interview with Conan…Harrison ford truly takes no sh*t from no one:
