i need to fraking thank you all

LOL. Firefly is a green show. They support recycling.

I am up to ‘Our Mrs. Reynolds’ on the DVD set and I am really enjoying the episodes!:stuck_out_tongue:

Target has the series for 17.99 right now this week. Just a little FYI for y’all.

that girl is hot

I just made it to the final disc. Didn’t realize I was on the last one until I saw that I was ALREADY on #4. I let out a big internal “NOOOOO” that was on par with “KHHHAAAAAAAN! KHAAAAAAAAN!” Not enough Firefly.

And there oughtta be some kind of Federal law about airing shows out of order.

Just spent a couple killer hours shoveling out the driveway. Fidgeting with my headgear the entire time, I kept thinking, “You know what’d be nice right now? A cunning hat.”

Anyhow, thanks for steering me to a second go-round with the series, first time on DVD. I’m sure it won’t be the last.

Also, all fans of Jayne/actor Adam Baldwin (no relation), I strongly suggest you check out the early 80s flick My Bodyguard, which has him in the title role, and the kid from Meatballs as the lead. Really remarkable work. Make no mistake: He is the real deal.

I have to say, my friends bugged the hell out of me to watch Firefly. I finally broke down & watched the entire thing last year. I am still pissed at them for making me watch it. Why? You might ask. It is simple, I now understand their crying & gnashing of teeth (I love that phrase!) when it was cancelled. Now it depresses me.

you people are nasty, you make me watch good things that got cancelled  im going to complain to the the highest authority on GWC…damn gotta go racetracks found Jimmy Hoffa

Hm, maybe I should give it a try after all? It’s just that I don’t know if I could relate to the western theme that the series seems to have?

Think of it more as ‘low tech worlds’ than ‘western.’

Ditto. I personally believe they did a massive dis-service by trying to sell this as a “Space Western” … I like the description that Joss Whedon gave it…

“This is the story of the people the Enterprise would have flown right by”

You will enjoy it GalaxyRanger…trust us. Excellent writing, brilliant acting, beautiful cinematography…it has got it all.

The whole western meets space concept put me off too, but stick with it, its so worth it and Solai is right, Lo Tech is probably the best way to view it.

Oh, I trust you. Y’all have good taste.

I’ll check it out eventually, after my finals…

You’ll have to excuse my ignorance about Firefly, though, it was never on TV over here - probably never on TV in any non-English speaking country? - and I hadn’t even heard about before I started listening to GWC.

Ironic, considering TOS Trek was sold to the network as “Wagon Train in space.”

The Western angle is both essential and incidental. The way the Firefly universe is set up, the Western thing amounts to realism, basically. You’ll see.

Definitely. Also consider the timing tho…Wagon Train ran from 1957 to 1965. Star Trek started in 1966, the comparison makes sense especially when there was no language to really describe what they wanted to do. It is funny to imagine Gene Roddenberry’s pitch.

“Ok…so, we have a group of astronauts”

“On a rocket?”

“Yes…but much bigger. It is like the size of a battleship.”

“So it is a war rocket?”

“No, it is just big. Really big. People live on it.”

“And they have to return to Earth after a few days?”

“No, they are explorers. They are going out into the universe, exploring.”

“They don’t need rocket fuel?”

“No, the ship runs on giant crystals. They don’t have to refuel. They are just exploring. Like Columbus.”

“Why? To get gold?”

“No, to increase their knowledge.”

<blank stare>

“Ok, try this: it is Wagon Train in space.”

“Ohhhhhhhh!”

i just loaned my dad the series, he loves it, he got though 11 episodes in 2 days.

So, I just watched Serenity, the movie, I had totally forgotten that I had a not-so-legal copy of it just lying around here somewhere, unwatched.

Guess what.

I liked it. It’s not Star Trek, but that’s okay. I’m convinced. I’ll watch all the rest too.

You won’t be disappointed! Well, except for the fact that there isn’t a lot more…

Which is precisely why I love Firefly so much.

Yeah, I can see that. It was hard at first to bear all the visual differences and the no-pastels look
no, I’m really good with Firefly, I can see why everybody likes it so much and I think I will too. Just a quick question: there’s lots of Chinese symbols and writings and from what I understand about the backstory, the US and China were the two main spacefaring nations. Do we get see actual Chinese astronauts or spacefarer or is their scripture all that is left of them?
