I just saw the new flim last night

Last night I was more than lucky enough to attend an advance screening the new Star Trek film at the Mann’s Chinese theater out here in Hollywood. I got a ticket to the show through the facebook group Sneak Screenings in Los Angeles.

But enough of that crappp you probably want if it is any good or not well…
Ooohhh My fraking Gods the movie ROCKED!!!

I will not spoil anything here, and yes there are somethings I could spoil especially if you are a long time Trekie and you know some of these characters better than you would members of your own family.

The new actors own the roles, I can not praise them enough. What blew my mind was not that when you looked up at the screen and you saw these new face with familiar names, but you could actually believe that you were seeing younger versions of those characters that we have all known for years.

For the record Karl Urban is Doctor McCoy. Bones was always one of my best loved characters from the old show and Mr Urban brings him to life again. The way he moved and the way he spoke just felt right somehow. There is a point in the film when we McCoy utters those famous words… ‘Dammit I am a Doctor not a ______’ and this sent the theater into a thunderous round of cheers.

Chris Pine makes a pretty good Kirk, of course he is no Shatner but then again who ever else could be.

Zachary Quinto, dose a wonderful job as the new Spock. Now here is were I feel lucky I don’t watch Heroes so he is a completely fresh face for me, yeah I know I should just turn my geek card but hey I am waiting till the series is done and I will catch the whole thing at once on DVD. If there is one I could nit pick about the new Spock it is that he does not sound right. Lenard Nemoy just has a particular tonal quality to his voice that is something I could listen to for hours on end, and heck sometimes I do when ever the History Channel show reruns of “In Search of…”. I could go on about the others in the movie but I figured that I would cover just the big three for right now.

However I must talk about the space battles and the new Enterprise. First this new incarnation of the old Constitution Class. Like it or love it is an awesome ship, and I love it even more so now that I have gotten to see it in action on the big screen. The new film changes the way space battle are fought but I won’t go in to any detail till more people have gotten a chance to see the film. Do I like the stuff they changed, you had better believe it, am I a fan of the old stuff, very much so. Is one better than the other no, just remember what drove the way the ship battles were fought and shown in years past were the limits of Special Effects at the time. At some point this became the working model even when the full use of CGI became available, they still carried the look feel of the way battles were fought in the old shows we saw on TV.

Well that is all I got for right now I love this new film, can not wait to see it again soon and I hope make a lot more of them.

How was Simon Pegg as Scotty? He’s the only one who’s made me nervous so far.

hearing the same thing…raelly looking forward to it…

Thumbs up, like with Bones and Kirk I think Pegg had one of the toughest jobs bringing Scotty back to the big screen. But he does it at well, at no time did I think oh look it’s that guy from Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Cool! Congratulations you are one lucky fellow. Thanks for your spoiler free thoughts. This is definitely encouraging; I think I am finally getting very excited for it!

After you sw the movie, were you interviewed or did you have to fill out a questionaire?
