I just got home...(Transformers: 2) - SPOILERS

Saw it yesterday…went in there wanting three things:

 1. Transformers transforming
 2. stuff blowing up
 3. Megan fox looking hot

got all those - but there are still some issues i have with the film

 1. during the fight scenes–they were so much and so fast–no chance to focus on the actual fighting itself. (had the same problem with some sequences with Batman begins)
2) the twins…seriously?? For me - it was Michael Bays answer to jar jar Binks. It was just past unnessecary. It took me out of the moment because all I wanted to do was tell them shut the hell up. And Sams roommate…STFU…damn!!!
and ladies…yeah it bugged me too
Megan Fox as the helpless female - all I could htink was "damn…THIS was what Audra and others were talking about. She was just the girlfriend–allbeit loyal and cool. The helpless female thing was just not neeed. I would rather have seen her become a major computer jock over the past two years becuase of the events in the first movie. .
and finally
would not have been a terrrible thing if Optimus died…it would have allowed for an interesting arc for the next flick. and it wasnt like he hadnt been offed in the cartoon anyway…
I went to catch the last full show with my sister and a friend on Saturday. At the theater we go to, we normally catch the LFS because it has less people than the first showing of the day. I checked online and all six theaters had 10:30p through 12:50am for last full show, so we were prepared.

Unfortunately though, ALL seats were taken. We opted to watch on Sunday instead, and lined up immediately once the mall opened. We saw the film on it’s first showing of the day, and armed ourselves with jumbo fries and softdrinks. I’ve read not-so-flattering reviews of the movie but that didn’t stop me from wanting to go. It’s a ROBOT movie, for pete’s sake, not Inconvenient Truth. I was going in not for a social dissertation, but to have fun and reconnect with childhood memories.

I’m glad I went through the Transformers primer podcasts (Thanks Sean!). The sister gave me a funny look when I exclaimed ‘Constructicons!!’ in the film.

Highlights:
My little car is one of the twins! Now all I need is the body kit…
Bumblebee, awesome as always.
Resurrected Optimus Prime (my heart stopped when I saw him killed. I was unspoiled for the movie)
Decepticon chihuahua pet.
JetFire! Jetfire on crutches and speaking the Queen’s English. (You know he’s a good guy when he speaks with a British accent!)
Constructicons! (This one my sister and friend didn’t get, and thought that their being in the movie just added to the gratuitous metal madness)
Cons:
Terminatrix who got obsessed with Sam
Not enough Arcee
Too much twins
Botox-filled Megan Fox lips (or are they real? In any case, too much close ups)
What were you people expecting??

Honestly…

I honestly wasn’t expecting much, I went in with no spoilers. I enjoyed the movie, those parts just bugged me. Not enough to not enjoy the movie, but kinda like a bunch of gnats flying around your face.

Well as a guy my character…
rain through the desert and then ran some more and so forth. And his girl was right there with him the entire time. Then the main military guy who’s been doing thangs the entire movie does more thangs until an actual Medic arrives so…personally I can’t see that gripe, at all.
Also regards to another point you made
US troops just landing & blowing shit up in the middle of Egypt without even a token mention of having been in contact with them getting their OK. Kids can & do understand that. There is only so far I can go on this type of thing in my suspension of disbelief. You can’t go into another country & just destroy it without a by your leave at least!
You might have missed it, it was quick but
the 4star General in the command center tells one of his subordinates to contact Egypt and get…LCS(?, LSC?) Flight clearance, so they did ask.
I wasn’t expecting much other than the usual explosions and thin plot of a Micheal Bay film. I got what I paid for. I was entertained but, I’m not sure if this will be a must-buy on DVD. Maybe I’ll pick it up used.

Ahh! I did miss that! Thanks for pointing that out!

I guess in the end it once again (for me) was a movie that was good, but could have been better with some tweaking.

dang looks like Transformers 2 took in over 200 million since Wednesday

as for the movie, saw it today, really enjoyed it, I think the Podcast actually helped because I kind of had a little backstory on most of the transformers now rather than the first time movie I went in not remembering anything really about them (I watched the cartoon when I was really young but really didn’t remember anything about it)

I saw it this morning and liked it pretty well, except for the twins. Pretty much any time they were onscreen or spoke I was trying my hardest to muffle groans. And weirdly, I minded Megan Fox’s character much less in this one. Maybe it was the whole capturing the bitty Decepticon thing.

And my Air Force buddy confirmed that again, she’s friends with the AWACS controllers in this movie :stuck_out_tongue:

@Sithwitch - Lots of AirForce and Navy footage on this movie. I’m glad your friend knows someone in the film.

I remember one podcast where one of the callers phoned in and told the crew that the Transformers was filming in an airplane bone yard. I guess we now know what he meant

Having seen the movie for a second time in a much less crowded day and showtime and on the suggestion of a friend read the official novelization, I liked the film alot better. Without getting into spoilers, official novelizations are often written based off the script and alot of the gripes people have about the movie are explained better. Especially Mikaela and The Fallen storyline.

I mean giant robots how could you go wrong, well Mr. bay found a way to go wrong in a spectacular way. this film is a mess. That being said i will thank Sean for the Transformers primer, it made not hate this movie just wish it had been better executed, but i’ll be honest the first time i saw the first transformers in 2007. I was not a fan. It had all the same old Bay’ian movie cliches, he’s done for the last ten years, but after some time I really like it now, so maybe i’ll take a shine to the sequel later on. Still it had sound wave with ravage and thats just plain awesome. and let us not forget the uber hot
Decipitcon chick, she’s a super freak, she’s super freaky
so over all it had a handful of good moments, and almost constant explosions can’t save; a sloppy uninspiring story.

edited to add was i the only one heartbroken when they were looking for the old transformer in the aeronautical museum and it turned out it wasn’t a P-51 Mustang, or a spitfire how awesome a transformer would that be.

edited again to add even if you were disappointed by the movie this is full of transformer goodness

How about the Spirit of St Louis? Jetfire was one a the few things I liked.

Just got back from a drive-in where we watched it and about half of Star Trek before being too tired to finish Trek (it would have been my 3rd time)

For a Sunday night w/no holiday it was fairly packed. We got there tooooo early (about 4 HOURS! oops) but within an hour there were 18 cars waiting to get in. I tried posting some pictures on twitter but they didn’t seem to post.
Anyway, I’ll post something more coherent in the morning after this “sleep” thing I’ve heard about.
(oh yeah, $14 for 2 adults+1 child for 2 movies if you can stay up. I wonder what’s playing over 4th of July)

With my impression of the Movie, as well as many others (plus critical reviews), one of the biggest flaws (I’m sure they do not consider it such) in the film industry has clarified itself to me.

You vote with your pocketbook when it comes to films, but you don’t get to pay after you watch the movie. Only before. The studio makes the money you spent regardless of whether the movie was good or not.

That movie was amazing. Excellent use of stop animation. I had that particular Bumblebee figure – “Action Master Bumblebee”, the figure didn’t actually transform. It was a last-ditch G1 effort by Hasbro to sell Transformers. The Action-master versions looked a lot closer to the Cartoon. This short did a tremendous job of making the figure look like it transformed into the VW…

Thanks for sharing!

I saw it again this weekend in a drive-in also. The place was wall to wall cars. Lots of people all having a good time. Also, I stayed till 2:30am (total of 8 hours)to finish Trek for the 4th time. At 7 bucks per person (cheap food too) for 2 movies, I gotta start doing the drive-in thing more often.

I agree that one of the biggest problems in film and TV is (as you have said) that it’s all about the $$$. Art is for a select few that often don’t get their work displayed because they don’t know how or are unwilling to work the system. In the end society suffers.

One thing I have never understood (not that this is what you said but it brings up the subject) is the people that will be unsatisfied with a movie and think they need their money back or deserve a refund. One pays for a service and receives it, that’s it. Do they go to sports games and ask for refunds if their team loses? Do they pay for a concert and ask for a refund because their favorite song wasn’t played? There is no accounting (department) for taste.

Ok, here’s my two cents:

I loved it! It was fun!

I didn’t mind the twins. I didn’t mind Devastator’s clanging balls. I didn’t mind Wheelie. I loved Jetfire.

I could have done without the dog humping. I could have done without Sam’s high mom telling every girl on campus about his sex-life.

All I’m saying is, “It happens” My mom was a child of the 60s, I gots some stories you wouldn’t believe.
