I am going to build my very own Millennium Falcon

Got all my parts today except for two! Did a lot of building of components that could not be attached until I built the big rear bottom section I just completed this morning (does that even make sense?) Took a lot of pictures.

Built this upper turbine section yesterday…

It is held on by two small pegs and a prayer. Gonna have to make some more "special modifications. There are a lot of parts that are held on by little more than a peg and gravity. Broke out the hot glue gun yesterday night to glue some axels that kept slipping out of the part they were supposed to hold on. I have an idea on how to fix the other parts without glue.

Another view of the cockpit

cockpit…

Got on the floor to take these pictures and was immediately attacked by a flurry of puppies. There’s nothing like having your eyeballs licked while trying to get a picture of the underside of the Millennium Falcon…

Here is a shot of the falcon with both wings now attached and all removable upper panels removed…

and another…

“Do these legos make my rear look big?”

Holy Nerfherders!

Your project’s looking awesome TGPal! Talk about a labor of love. The largest LEGO I’ve done is the Republic Attack Cruiser at 1170 pcs, a boxed kit and that was a multi-night job. Can’t imagine scrounging the 5000+ pieces from near and far and then going to work on it. Wow.

Thanks for keeping us updated!

I’ve been lurking your posts for a while TGPAL, and I just have to say I’m super impressed. It’s an awesome project. But where will you store/display this gem once it’s complete? It’s HUGE! Perhaps hanging from a high ceiling? (or is this being recorded so much because it will go the way of so many other Lego models? …A brief shining moment, only to be disassembled and turned into something else even cooler in the future?)

Anyway, thanks for the posts. Can’t wait to see it complete.

PS: Anyone else see any irony in recreating something that once was adorned with nernie details cobbled from other toy parts (plastic models), using what are essentially toy parts?

Nernies (and greebles) = technical terms for random details on both physical and digital models, often cannibalized from other models.

I think when it’s done I’m gonna fill it with M-80s and gasoline. lol. But really, It is way too heavy to hand from the ceiling. I think either the ceiling would fall or the model itself would sag & break. The entire weight, now about 30 pounds rests on the seven landing gear, which I often wonder how bad of a design job that was. There is gonna be even more weight when I fix all the poorly designed loose parts. I’ve had parts actually fall off from poor design.

I have a really big wooden speaker cabinet that will make a good base for this and I can display it on that. I’m thinking of painting the top gloss black and surrounding the model with stormtroopers.

You know, you could make an interesting little side business doing this. Obviously it boils down to:

  1. What people are willing to spend to procure a Lego Millennium Falcon (over $1,000 you said?)

  2. The overhead on your part to manage and organize in hours

  3. Raw cost to procure all materials ($300ish?)

All being said and done as long as it doesn’t take hundreds of hours to construct this math could work. Even if you only do one a month you could end up netting some nice cash. Heck, you could even have two options:

a. Option A: Given your new expertise in acquiring all the parts you offer the, “Pay me X to ship you all the pieces”
b. Option B: They pay you for the pieces AND the overhead of putting it together for them

Point being you have made yourself an expert in this. There could be a market for this set of skills!

This might be of interest. Legoland is doing a Star Wars Miniland.

Oh crap! How heavy is that falcon?

That thing looks like it might be solid Lego bricks if you need a tow motor to lift it. I know mine is very heavy & it’s mostly hollow!

I got some more work done, probably gonna stay up and finish this tonight.

Just finighed the back end…

Just have a little more left to build & she’s out of drydock!

Looking really awesome! Man that looks like fun. What’s the diameter of the whole ship? Loving the pics, sir.

That is a perfect shot. LEGO Han’s face. Wonderful.

Where do I place my order?
