This really is my favorite of the seven books. A nice little last excursion into Harry’s childhood before he faces the debacle at the end. The Pensieve journeys into Tom Riddle’s past are a particular favorite of mine, not to mention the immensely hilarious scene with Dumbledore at number 4 Privet Drive.

I’m not going to knock the film version too much, but I do feel its focus was heavily misplaced, spending too much time on the teen relationship stuff, which while amusing in the book, became ad nauseam on screen.

Wonderful book though, and worth coming back to time and again.

I just finished re-reading it and I have to say - I really like the book better than the movie. So much better.

For whatever reason I find that this one isn’t as exciting for me to re-read as the other books - I’m not sure why, but I’m not as delighted by the different reveals, even though I enjoy reading about Slughorn and Horcruxes and such. This time I noticed a definite shift away from Hogwarts as school-place (which makes sense, what with no exams and everything), in the earlier books I always felt that their classroom time was important to what was going on, but in this one I feel like it’s getting set up for them to not be at school in the final book.
