I don’t believe I haven’t thought of mentioning this until now (and I do this every day).
The Hollywood Stock Exchange is kinda like an online fantasy sports league, but for film fans and celeb watchers, and it’s all free and just for fun (though I hear some in hollywood actually keep tabs on it to follow the buzz on their own projects).
When you first sign up, you are given a little fake money. You can invest it in movie stocks (posted when pre-pro starts and who’s value generally rises as production continues), star bonds (basically invests in the “Hottness” of an actor or director) and other film based commodities. You can also earn more Hollywood Dollars by clicking on links, taking polls, and referring friends.
I invest almost exclusively in upcoming animated, comic based, and sci-fi films, and I hardly ever invest in stars. Always invest in what you know, right?
I find that it’s not only another source of info on upcoming movies, but it keeps me motivated to stay up on what’s coming out as well. I’ve done it for years now and still enjoy it.
My fastest riser today is unsurprisingly Kung Foo Panda, up 6.30.
And so far I’ve made about $70,000,000 in fake money overall, a 3,300% return on my fake investment.
“Mine, mine, mine! Down, down, down! Mine, mine, mine!”
(Wouldn’t it be cool If you could use this fake money in other fake lands on the web… like Second Life or WOW?)
